Felix mashed the herbs into a thick paste and brought it to Amelia’s lips.
“Amelia, open up,” he coaxed.
But she was burning up, lost in a fever dream, completely out of it.
Felix sighed quietly. “Sorry about this.”
He eased her up, letting her lean into him, then gently pried her mouth open and fed her the bitter herbs, chasing it down with a sip of water.
The taste made her grimace. Amelia’s eyelids fluttered, her gaze unfocused. She tilted her head back, seeing only a blurry outline in front of her.
Even so, some small part of her remembered where she was.
“Felix…”
“I’m here,” he answered.
Her eyes drifted shut again as she mumbled, voice weak and broken. “If… if Tatum comes… you need to run… don’t worry about me… they won’t… won’t kill me.”
She slumped against his shoulder and faded back into sleep.
Felix sat there, looking down at her, not even sure how he felt.
Right now, she was completely relying on him.
Tatum wouldn’t kill her, that much was clear. If anything, seeing Amelia like this would probably scare Tatum half to death. But if something really happened to her, Ryan—God, that lunatic would find a way to make them all regret it.
But why? Why all of this?
If Ryan had set this up, if he’d sent Amelia here on purpose, then knowing the kind of guy Ryan was, there’s no way he didn’t know Felix was on Tiger Wind Island too.
The realization sent a chill down Felix’s spine.
Was he just another piece in Ryan’s game?
He carefully laid Amelia back on her bed of straw. He heated some spring water, found a clean cloth, and started cooling her forehead.
He lost track of how many times he switched the cloth for a fresh, hot one. Again and again, all night, until finally her fever started to break and Felix could breathe a little easier.
He sat by her side, leaning against the cave wall, eyes closed but never fully asleep, every muscle still tense.
Even if Ryan had planned for Amelia to end up on the island, there were still dangers everywhere—different factions, poisonous creatures, wild animals. And now, someone he needed to protect. Felix couldn’t afford to let his guard down for a second.
So the moment Amelia started mumbling in her sleep, Felix’s eyes snapped open.
