“Achoo!” Amelia sneezed suddenly.
Felix glanced over at her almost instantly. “Are you cold?”
Before she could even answer, he shrugged off his jacket and tossed it her way.
“Sorry, this is the best I can do right now. Once the rain lets up and the sun comes out, I’ll take you to the only village on Tiger Wind Island. It’s a neutral zone where no one fights. You can stay there for a while. Rescue teams should show up soon.”
Amelia tried to respond, but another sneeze cut her off. She covered her face with her hands, feeling a little embarrassed.
Felix’s eyes softened and he smiled just a bit.
Inside the cave, there was only one spot to sleep—the rough hay bed Amelia had just been lying on. Nothing else that could pass for a bed.
He must have been sleeping there before she showed up. Now she’d stolen his place.
“Felix, why don’t you rest here for a bit?” Amelia offered. “I’ve been lying down forever. I’m not even tired anymore.”
Felix knew exactly what she was thinking and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Ms. Sadinton, I’m not just a guy—I’m a soldier. I’m not about to let a civilian give up their bed for me. Do I really look so delicate that I can’t rest unless I have a mattress?”
Amelia fell silent. She could never keep up with Felix’s quick comebacks, and right now her fuzzy head made her even slower to respond.
Felix knelt by the fire, adding more wood until the flames grew brighter.
“Alright, enough arguing. Get some sleep. The rain’s easing up. I’m going to look around outside for a bit.”
He stood up and headed for the cave entrance.
