Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 447

“I was helping a frien—” Daniel cut himself off, his handsome face leaning closer to the front seat. “Curious?”

“Kiss me and I’ll tell you.”

Amelia grabbed a box of tissues and lobbed it at him. Daniel caught it midair, grinning. “If there were a world championship for wife-murder, you’d take the gold.”

Amelia shot him a cold smile. “Dismembering the body afterward? I’d take first place for that too. Want to try me?”

Daniel tossed the tissue box back in its place. “Fine, if I die by your hand, I’ll go without regrets.”

They drove the rest of the way to Elm Estates in silence; neither brought up the conversation again.

When the car pulled up at the gated entrance, Amelia’s voice was frosty. “Out.”

Daniel glanced at her profile—cool as marble—and wondered if last night’s rare moment of harmony had been nothing but a dream.

“Already turning your back on me? Forgotten whose room you slept in last night?”

He had no intention of getting out. Ruby had called him “Daddy,” after all. What kind of father doesn’t live with his daughter? He was moving in, whether Amelia liked it or not.

Amelia could read his mind from the stubborn set of his jaw. She got out, strode around, and yanked open the back door. “After you, Mr. Campbell.”

The security guard at the gate was watching, and a few passersby slowed to stare. Daniel might have a thick skin, but he was still the distinguished Mr. Campbell—reputation mattered.

He straightened his collar, smoothed a stray lock of Ruby’s hair behind her ear, and finally climbed out with exaggerated composure.

Amelia turned to slide back into the driver’s seat, but Daniel caught her hand. Before she could react, he leaned down and brushed a quick kiss against her lips.

A fleeting touch—gone before she could even raise her hand.

He already knew what she’d do, so he deftly stepped back, wearing a roguish grin. “Don’t hit me. If you do, I’ll kiss you again—until you’re too tired to be mad.”

That was just the sort of thing Daniel would say. Amelia slid back behind the wheel and floored the gas, speeding off while furiously wiping her mouth.

Absolutely shameless.

Daniel watched her car disappear into the underground garage, a soft smile lingering on his lips.

Across the street, Violet stood beneath the shade of an old oak, watching it all unfold.

Chapter 447 2

Violet pressed a hand to her chest, pain radiating from her heart, sharp and unyielding. Years of longing—reduced to a cruel joke.

She couldn’t accept it. Not now, not ever. If it weren't for Amelia, she and Daniel would never have ended up like this.

Back home, Violet wept until her pillow was soaked. She finally collapsed, sobbing herself to sleep, only to be jolted awake by a phone call.

It was Cedric—Daniel’s most trusted bodyguard.

“Ms. Scott, your flight is tomorrow night at eight. I’ll personally drive you to the airport.”

So she was being escorted out?

Would she ever get another chance to come back to Silkwood?

The tears on Violet’s face had long since dried, her cheeks tight and raw. She didn’t need a mirror to know she looked a mess.

Chapter 447 3

Five minutes later, Cedric called back. “Daniel will be done with his meeting after six. He should be home around seven.”
