Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 946

Lisa was led by Logan to the yard. The old persimmon tree stood with a single leaf clinging to its branch, stubbornly resisting the elements.

After a heavy rain and countless gusts of cold wind, the fact that it still hung on was a testament to its strength.

As the cold wind picked up, the tree branches swayed, making the sky seem even colder. However, Lisa's heart was racing, and she could feel sweat trickling down her back.

She couldn't explain the mix of tension and unease that had taken over her.

Her hand, which Logan had held, felt warmer than the other, so she clasped them together. "Uncle Logan, I've told you before that doing this will hurt Grandma and the others," she said.

He remained silent, his piercing eyes fixed on her.

His gaze was so intense that she couldn't meet his eyes. She focused instead on the buttons of his coat.

"You wanted to hear the reason, didn't you?" His smooth voice resonated above her.

She felt a knot in her throat, and her heart was pounding. "Uncle Logan, whatever your reason is—"

"You're the reason why!" he interrupted.

Her hands, still clasped together, trembled slightly. Her eyelids, which had been cast downward, suddenly lifted to meet his gaze. His gaze was so deep, like a whirlpool pulling her in.

She quickly looked away. "Uncle Logan, don't say that. My mom already suspects something. If she hears this, she'll kill me!"

"Because I'm no longer a Cohen, and I don't have any blood ties to the family. That's why I can be with you." His words made Lisa's breath catch in her throat.

She froze, and her mind reeled as if she had been struck on the head.

She wasn't oblivious. She had picked up on some things, and I had dropped hints here and there.

Joking about it and making her own guesses was one thing. But hearing him say it out loud was something else entirely. Lisa felt like she had been struck by lightning.

"Liz, I know this will scare you, which is why I've never told you. But I think you should sense it by now." Logan stared at her as she hung her head low, resembling a startled quail.

"Uncle Logan, please stop," Lisa interrupted him. "There's no way I could ever see you in that way. I only think of you as my uncle. Anything else is impossible."

With that, she turned and ran away.

He didn't chase after her, simply watching as she disappeared into the distance.

A cold gust of wind blew by. The leaf, once so firmly attached, was forced to let go of the branch. It fell slowly, as if hesitant to leave its beloved bough.

Lisa made a hasty retreat, her composure shattered. As a surgeon in her late 20s, she was used to being calm and composed on the operating table. Yet here she was, flustered by a declaration of love.

But this wasn't just anyone. It was Logan, her uncle.

Even though they weren't related by blood, she considered him her closest family.

How could he develop romantic feelings for her?
