When Lisa video-called me, I saw that she was in a three-bedroom house.
I had no idea she had already moved into Xander's place, so I curiously asked, "Where are you?"
"My husband's house," she said shamelessly.
Seeing her carefree attitude, I knew she had accomplished what she set out to do. But I was still surprised. "Xander said yes? And let you move in just like that?"
"Yes, get ready to give us a wedding gift, and make sure it's a generous one." She was really getting into character.
I didn't laugh or joke with her, instead saying, "Liz, it's easier to get into a relationship than to get out of one. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Lisa seemed confident, saying, "Relax, I've got a deal with Mr. Roulder. It's strictly business."
Xander, the poor sap, had no idea what he had gotten himself into. I didn't know how Lisa had managed to convince him, but somehow she had, and now they were a thing.
The die was cast, and I didn't want to say anything more. "What about your uncle?"
She replied, "I have no idea, but anyway, I've escaped." She sounded as if she had broken free from a cage.
I looked at her through the screen. "Liz, I want to ask you something. You don't have to answer now, but think about it carefully."
"What is it?" she asked.
"If Logan weren't your uncle, would you be with him?" I asked.
Lisa immediately raised her hand, signaling me to stop. "Let's not go there. That's a made-up scenario so I wouldn't even think about it."
"Liz, I get it. Your situation with Logan is tough. I know the challenges you will face. But... I think Logan is a good man, and it's a shame if you miss out on him." I had been constantly thinking about this for her.
But I knew that Logan had already made a significant decision to be with Lisa that he'd rather announce to everyone that he wasn't a Cohen by blood. This showed how determined he was, so her attempt to escape was likely to be in vain.
After hanging up, I sat in the rocking chair, staring blankly at the sky above the yard. Brandon came over and said, "Thinking about Lisa again?"
I told him about Lisa's agreement with Xander, and Brandon smiled faintly. "They're both adults, so they must have thought this through. And Xander's a good guy. If you're still worried, I can remind him to be careful."
"Then do it now." Lisa was the most important person in my life, and I couldn't afford to let anything go wrong.
Brandon always tried to accommodate my requests, and this time was no exception. He immediately called Xander and put the phone on speaker.
"Mr. Howell, what can I do for you?" Xander's voice was cheerful.
"I heard you're living with your girlfriend now?" Brandon said while massaging my legs.
