Chapter 376 You Save the Mother
Erik’s POV:
The moment I heard Deanna was in trouble, I left my lab coat half–buttoned and sprinted straight to the ER.
Several senior physicians with deep experience trailed close behind me.
When the doors swung open, I saw Deanna on the gurney-
My brows knotted hard.
Her eyes were shut tight; her face was paper–white, almost translucent; her lips had a frightening bluish tint.
What rattled me most was the faint gold that belonged to a Healer–it was perilously dim.
“What’s the patient’s status?”
The attending doctors standing by looked grim; one hurried to answer.
“Patient is pregnant. To protect the pure–blood pup, her wolf spirit appears to have spent everything shielding the uterus. The mother’s core temperature is now well below werewolf norms. It’s critical. We need to rewarm immediately–or both mother and child will be in danger.”
Damn it.
She’s a Healer; instinct is to mend others. And at the cliff’s edge, a mother’s instinct forced her to burn herself out to keep the child alive.

Luis stood to the side, eyes bloodshot, staring at Deanna, fingers crushing her hand in his. His voice came hoarse and slow. “Help me. Save her.”
For a beat, it felt like a needle slammed into my heart.
Luis–proud, untouchable, the pure–blood Alpha at the pinnacle of Nordvale–when had he ever begged?
In all the years I’ve known him, this was the first time I’d heard a plea crushed down to dust.
I looked up at him.
He stood silent at the bedside, body rigid, lashes lowered; I couldn’t read his eyes, only the dead quiet radiating off him.

His pheromones, usually ironclad, were fraying from grief and panic, pressing on the until breaths grew shallow.
He stood at the very edge of breaking.
My only job now was to pull Deanna back.
Because if anything happened to her-
Luis would do something catastrophic. I was sure of it.
I lifted a hand and clapped his shoulder–firm, steady.
“You need to wait outside. Leave this to us.”

He didn’t move. In those black pupils, the light was shattered; he couldn’t look away from the woman on the bed.
Behind me, the team traded helpless looks.
We had no time to waste. I dropped my voice.
“Luis, if you don’t want anything to happen to Deanna, step out. Now. Or I can’t answer for the outcome.”
Only then did he loosen his grip.
His gaze went glassy–red filmed the edges, a trapped beast choking
He walked toward the doors like a robot.
I followed, steps heavy, ready to shut him out.
He turned, suddenly, grabbed my lapels in a fist like iron-
The force clamped my throat; spots flashed in my vision.
His long eyes, raw and red as if bleeding, pinned me. He bit out each word, blood–cold and final.
“Erik. Remember.
“Whatever happens, you save the mother.”
Upon hearing that, I froze for a second.
