Chapter 388 Staying
Deanna’s POV:
I looked away and pouted.
He made it sound like I was actually waiting for him to propose.
“I don’t want that.”

Luis watched me with a smile. “If you don’t want it, then we can just go straight to city hall.”
I got anxious. “Don’t
you
dare.”
The words had barely left my mouth when Luis let out a deep, warm laugh. His laughter echoed through the whole hospital room.
I glared at him in embarrassment. “Luis! You’re doing that on purpose. I’m not talking to you anymore.”
He was still laughing as he wrapped an arm around me and pulled me into his chest. “Okay, okay. My bad. Don’t worry, you’ll get everything–the proposal, the ceremony, all of it.”
My anger faded, and I rubbed my cheek against his chest.
Ever since dating Luis, I felt like I’d become more emotional. I wasn’t sure if that was good or bad.
After a moment, his phone rang.
He ruffled my hair and stepped outside to take the call.
I leaned against the pillows and thought about what he said earlier–about registering our marriage.
To register, we needed a “heritage scroll.”
Every werewolf had one. When a werewolf was born, a pack elder would record all their important information on that scroll.
When Mistbane Pack took me back, they made one for me. Kathryn had been keeping it safe ever since.
Just as I thought of her, Kathryn called.

Chapter 388 Staying
She was far away in Euron and didn’t know I’d been hurt.
“Hi, Mom.”
“Deanna, how are things over there?”
“The company stuff is fine.”

Kathryn laughed. “Mariah can’t wait to see you. She’s been asking every day when you’re coming.”
Mariah Hendricks–my aunt.
I pressed my lips together, ready to say something, when I saw Luis standing at the door.
He stood with one hand in his pocket, tall and backlit by the hallway lights. His face was hard to see in the glow.
Kathryn’s voice pulled me back. “Deanna?”
I snapped back to the moment.
Right then, I wanted to tell him everything I hadn’t said.
So I curled my finger at him.
Luis tilted his head but still walked toward me, slow and steady.
As he reached me, I grabbed his hand tightly. Looking into his gem–bright eyes, I said, “Mom, I’ve decided not to go to Euron.”
Kathryn gasped.
“What? Why so suddenly?”
Luis’s gaze was hot on me, straight and powerful. I breathed in and said, “I’m staying.”
Right away, he squeezed my hand–hard, like he couldn’t help it.
I continued, “Mom, can you mail me my heritage scroll?”
Kathryn went quiet for a few seconds. Then she asked, “What about the house in Euron?”
“If you like the living there, you can stay whenever you want. We can go back and forth.”
