I took a deep breath and kept talking.

“Actually, I was selfish. In the beginning, I kept hesitating. I wasn’t sure about us.

“I even made a deal with Ruth. She gave me 30 percent of Mistbane Group. And I let you go because I wanted to fight back against her using you to get into Mooncrown Pack.”

I said everything in one breath and didn’t dare look at him.

Luis lifted his head then, his dark eyes locked on me. “I’m glad you chose to tell me all of this.”

I froze. “You … knew?”

He tugged the corner of his mouth. “Piggy, do you really think your acting is that good?”

Even though he said that, he didn’t look mad at all.

My nose stung. “Then why didn’t you ever confront me?”

Luis didn’t answer right away, so I panicked and blurted, “I’m pregnant now! I have immunity! You’re not allowed to be mad at me–for the baby’s sake.”

He tapped my forehead lightly. “I’m only mad that you didn’t tell me earlier. Instead, you forced yourself to fight everything alone.”

I bit my lip. “But she’s your grandmother.”

Luis let out a short laugh. “And how do you know I wouldn’t choose you?”

“You’re my mate. Why don’t you have any confidence in yourself?”

My eyes went blurry with tears.

After becoming a healer, my body healed much faster. Honestly, I could’ve been discharged days ago.

But Luis didn’t feel safe letting me go home, so he forced me to stay a little longer.

Finally, this morning, he gave in.

When I returned to the Mooncrown Pack estate, I found out Luis had already assigned several strong guards to follow me everywhere.

Their presence alone told me they were high–ranking werewolves–elite members of the pack.

I wasn’t used to it and argued with him nonstop.

I decided to go with her.

I picked a pale lavender satin gown from the walk–in closet and tried it on in front of the full- length mirror.

The gown looked dreamy, the skirt falling in soft, layered waves to my ankles like drifting clouds at sunset.

It wasn’t form–fitting, so unless someone stared very closely, no one would notice I was almost four months pregnant.

“Where are you going?” A deep voice came from behind me. Luis was leaning against the closet doorway without me noticing.

“A charity gala.”

I turned around and tried to pull up the zipper on the back of the dress, but with my belly, I couldn’t reach it well.

“Luis, come help me zip this.”
