Deanna's POV:
After leaving the city hall, we headed back to the Zedowood.
Once we stepped through the door, it suddenly hit me that this place didn't really feel right for newly bonded mates.
Not to mention that in just a few more months, the pup in my belly would be born.
As a mother, of course I wanted to give my child a good environment and a brand new home that was truly ours.
"Do you have any other houses?"
Luis raised an eyebrow. "Where do you want to live?"
I thought about it seriously. "The house should be bigger, close to schools and hospitals, with convenient transportation, and enough room for two live-in servants."
As I listed out my requirements, I looked up to find Luis staring at me intently with those deep eyes of his.
I touched my face. "What?"
He let out a low chuckle and reached over to tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "You have a certain vibe right now."
I played along. "What kind of vibe?"
"The vibe of a wife."
My cheeks instantly flushed, and I shot him an annoyed glare.
Luis grinned smugly, planted a kiss on my cheek, then strolled into the kitchen with a spring in his step.
I sank into the couch, tucked my legs beneath me, and scrolled idly through my phone, occasionally stealing glances at the tall figure bustling around in the kitchen.
He had taken off his suit jacket and wore only his white dress shirt, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing his toned forearms as he skillfully prepared the ingredients. A warm, golden haze from the evening sun surrounded him where he stood by the window.
Honestly, after the registration, our lives didn't seem all that different.
After all, we had already been living together for a while and were long familiar with each other's presence and habits. But something had definitely changed. There was a deeper, more solid sense of security now. I could proudly declare to the whole world that he was my Alpha mate, and no one could take him from me.
As I scrolled through my phone, a new notification suddenly popped up. It was an update on Luis's social media.
Posted half an hour ago.
That little life who had depended on me so much and brought me countless moments of joy was now lying in the pack's medical center, in a special care unit, kept alive by life support systems and medication, with no telling when he might wake up.
But at least he was still alive. That miracle had come at the cost of everything I had, even risking harm to myself and my unborn pup.
It was okay to feel sad and to miss him, but I couldn't let myself drown in it.
I needed to maintain my strength and keep my energy stable so I could visit Puddy regularly for maintenance treatments, using my healing ability to nurture his damaged life core. Maybe then he would wake up soon.
I took a deep breath, saved the photo Luis had posted, and closed the app.
Then I made a post of my own.
"My Alpha. Here's to the future together."
I attached a photo of the bond certificate.
The moment I posted it, my phone exploded with notifications, messages pouring in like a flood.
I glanced at the screen, turned off my phone, got up from the couch, and walked into the kitchen, one step at a time.
