Violet's POV:

Starlight Estate.

When Deanna came back, she didn't go upstairs to rest. She even skipped her usual trip to the terrace to look at the garden. Instead, she moved slowly across the living room and stopped in front of the grand piano.

Her fingers, long and delicate, brushed across the piano keys. The notes sounded uneven and empty, completely off rhythm.

I stayed right where I was and watched her carefully. I was terrified she might break down or do something irrational.

But she didn't move an inch beyond the keys. Her head stayed low, her eyes locked on the piano. She was too still, too calm.

I licked my dry lips and tried to think before speaking.

"Deanna, maybe there's something we don't know. When Luis comes back, we can ask him together. You're almost at full term. You can't let yourself spiral like this."

I had more to say, but when I glanced at her belly, I held my tongue. One more word might push her over the edge.

Deanna lifted her hand away from the keys. Her voice was low and slow. "Alright. I hear you."

A housekeeper approached from the kitchen. She carried a porcelain bowl in her hands.

"Ma'am, you haven't had your soothing tonic yet tonight."

Deanna didn't even glance at her. Her tone was flat. "Leave it on the table. I don't have the appetite for it."

The woman set the bowl down gently and gave a small nod. "The Alpha just called. Something came up last minute. He'll be away for two days. He told me to let you know you don't need to wait for him."

My pulse spiked again.

"What did you say? He's going on a trip now?!"

Deanna stayed still. She said nothing. It was like she didn't hear me at all. She turned to the housekeeper, her voice still calm. "Alright. You can go."

The housekeeper hesitated. She looked at me, then at Deanna. After a moment, she nodded and stepped out.

The room went quiet again. I took another deep breath. Then another. I had to stay composed. But my vision was starting to blur.
