Gillian had not expected Merrick to coax her so gently.
“So childish.”

A strange feeling washed over her. Their intimate moments earlier had never made her feel half as comfortable as she did right now.
After he pressed a soft kiss on her wrist, Merrick’s fingers trailed downward without hesitation.
“Gillian, does any other part hurt? Let me kiss it better for you.”
The memory of the grape incident in the bathroom flashed through her mind, pushing Gillian to her limit.
She unleashed her aura at full force. Surging golden psionic power burst forth like a fountain, forcefully pushing Merrick away.
She quickly grabbed the bio-armor from the nightstand and hurried into the bathroom.
“Take your time, Gillian. I promise I won’t peek.”
Seeing Gillian thoroughly riled up, Merrick knew better than to tease her further. He needed to go find his lucky charm downstairs immediately.
Merrick brushed off the non-existent dust on his clothes, changed into a new outfit, and headed out first.
When Gillian walked downstairs, she found Merrick chatting warmly with Mabel.
“Gillian, you’re finally down. Merrick brought back many clerics from the fallen golden lion territory. But they’re all in poor condition. He’s wondering if you can treat them.”
Gillian glanced toward Merrick in surprise. He had really rescued captive clerics?
Merrick had been focused solely on her the moment he returned home.
Still, Gillian had planned to ask him about news of other clerics. She suspected her terrible experience was never an isolated case.
“Stop rushing. Sit down and have some soup first.”
Merrick pulled out a chair for her, then slid an egg and a bowl of warm soup toward her.
Gillian took a big sip of the soup. The warmth soothed her tired body instantly, and she continued speaking.
“It’s always felt strange to me. Very few clerics who graduated in the past three years from Goldspine City have shown up in public.”
Back when she was an intern, she had only kept in wrist terminal contact with a handful of graduated

clerics. Had their freedom been restricted all along?
Merrick could easily read the unspoken thoughts on her face.

They were all imprisoned and controlled, Gillian. You’re the only cleric who managed to escape in these three years.”
He tapped a whole egg gently on the table, cracking its shell, then handed it to her.
“Really? Does that mean more than ninety clerics were held captive?” She didn’t deny it.
They were trapped through core bonds and countless cruel, underhanded methods.
“According to the rescued clerics, ninety-three were abducted in total. Number Two only found thirty of them.
“These thirty females were locked in a sealed underground factory, forced to infuse psionic power into healing metal nonstop. Their physical and mental states are extremely fragile now.”
Merrick had never imagined the Grayson family would treat talented clerics like caged livestock.
“What about the remaining sixty-three?”
“They were transferred to other beast cities. No one has tracked down their exact locations. The whole operation was kept extremely hidden.”
“So the Grayson family had accomplices? Have you continued the investigation?”
“Finn and Lucian have already led our team to follow up on the case.”
Gillian wiped her hands after finishing breakfast. She suddenly realized how pleasant it would be to work alongside Merrick as a partner.
He handled every problem with thoughtful consideration.
Subtly, Gillian began to truly recognize him.
She no longer addressed Merrick stiffly. She spoke to him without threats or inducements, purely out of genuine acknowledgment.
“Merrick, after wiping out the golden lion clan, will the Void Star judiciary come for you?”
Mabel looked at Merrick with the same worried gaze. “Yes, will you get into trouble over this?”
When he was filled with his partner and Mabel’s sincere concern, Merrick’s smile softened from the bottom of his heart.
All the intimate time he had spent with Gillian earlier that morning had been well worth it. “Before I moved against the golden lion clan, I submitted solid evidence to the beast judiciary. Their conspiracy to annihilate the 9th Legion alone is a capital offense.”
