Tristan took a step closer. His wavy hair brushed his playful, fox-tike eyes as he gave Gillian a thorough once-over.

The problem was, this girl didn’t even have a thousand coins to her narne. She was completely broke!

Come to think of it, she’d been popping up in front of him ever since they boarded the shuttle.

Tristan sneered. Was she trying to make me her second easy target? Has she been targeting me from the very start?

“Gillian,” he said, “I admit you’ve caught my attention. But I have zero interest in someone who’s already mated. A normal girl like you? An A-class wrist terminal is more than enough. Drop the act. It’s just pathetic. Don’t make me expose what you’re up to.”

Gillian thought that sometimes, when utterly speechless, all she could do was taugh.

“One trillion coins,” she said flatly. “You want it? Pay up, and I’ll take it off right now.”

She turned around, as if daring him to pay. There was no reasoning with someone like him. Money was the only language he understood.

Tristan’s face darkened. “Two hundred million. That’s my final offer.”

Gillian took a slow step back. “Sorry. If you can’t meet my price, this conversation is over. I have things to do. Goodbye.”

She was done wasting time on him and turned to go back to Mabel.

“Stop right there,” Tristan snapped sharply. “I didn’t say you could leave.”

She had underestimated how stubborn he was. Is he really going to cause a scene in public?

Gillian stared at the insistent Tristan, her temper rising. “Can’t pay the price, so now you’re resorting to robbery?”

As her words hung in the air, a pair of pinkish-white fox ears popped out from Tristan’s head. He lowered his beautiful, fox-like eyes, a charming pink glint flashing inside them.

Gillian frowned. A fox? From Firefox City?

Firefox City was home to many fox clans, the most famous being the Lawson family.

First the Graysons, and now I’ve run into someone from the even more powerful Lawson family?

That pink glint instantly made Gillian’s vision blur.

“Give me the wrist terminal. We have a deal. Two hundred million coins is more than enough to live comfortably for life,” Tristan murmured, his voice laced with a hypnotic, compelling power.

Gillian’s left hand moved toward her right wrist on its own, her firrgers touching the terminal.

Tristan relaxed, seeing his prize almost within his grasp. I can’t believe I can’t even deal with one ordinary girl.

Suddenly, a faint smile tugged at her soft pink lips

A flash of golden psionic power shot out like a blade, shattering Tristan’s hypnotic charm.

Tristan dodged at once, but the energy still grazed the back of his hand, leaving a bleeding cut.

The power kept going, hitting Wasteland City’s hard ground and blasting a thumb-sized crater into it.

She’s a cleric!

The dirt in Wasteland City was famously hard. Even a level 5 beastman would chip a tooth falling on it. Only a cleric’s purifying power could damage it like that.

Tristan clenched his injured hand, blood dripping through his fingers. Gillian’s eyes were clear and alert-she hadn’t been hypnotized at all.

She was messing with me this entire time!

But Tristan finally thought he had her. A triumphant smile spread across his face. “You dare attack a superior officer? Just wait until I have you and your mate arrested-”

“Oh my, I’m so sorry, Major Lawson!” Gillian cried out in a pitiful tone. “I didn’t mean to hurt you! I used too much psionic power on the shuttle. I can’t control it very well right now!”

Gillian was dressed in a clean white dress and looked completely fragile and wronged. Having just attacked him, she paled and hung her head in obvious guilt.

“Major Lawson, you’re too kind to hold this against someone like me, right?”

Tristan narrowed his eyes. What trick is she playing now?

Seeing that Gillian had lost control of her powers out of fear, Freya immediately pulled her back.

“Freya…” Gillian whispered weakly.

“Major Lawson,” Freya stepped forward, her voice firm, “Gillian really did use up a lot of psionic power on the shuttle. Wasteland City will need her help greatly from now on. I ask you to let this go.”

“She’s just a cleric,” Tristan snapped coldly, his voice full of contempt now that he was injured. “The Lawson family has plenty of clerics. If she dies here today, I can send seven or eight more to replace her. Black Rick wouldn’t dare touch me over this.”

How dare she play innocent? He was determined to force her to hand over the wrist terminal.

Freya’s face darkened. “Major Lawson! I suggest you watch your mouth!”
