“Where are you heading for your mission?” Gillian never expected him to leave so suddenly again.

“I am going to the taint source zones.”

“You want to check if everything I said is true?”

“That is not it. I have full faith in your words.”

Merrick took her hand and pressed a soft kiss on it. “I need to see the actual situation in person to feel fully assured.”

“Stay safe out there.”

Gillian knew she had no reason to hold him back, so she could only remind him carefully.

“I am more than capable of handling things. You can rest easy, honey.”

Merrick joked and gently brushed his hand over her belly. Gillian tensed up at once. She feared he might find out her secret.

Merrick noticed her momentary awkwardness yet did not think much of it.

“I will walk you down.”

Gillian stayed silent all the way until she stepped off the aircraft.

She had no idea when she should tell Merrick about the children.

She had already told him about the blackstones and the upcoming faint outbreak. As for the babies, she decided to wait till he came back. She could not figure out why she kept putting this off.

Seeing her distracted look, Merrick stroked her hair softly.

“Do not worry too much. I will be back soon. We still have a whole month before the outbreak hits. Everything stays safe for now.”

“I am not… Forget it. Take good care on the way.”

“I will.”

Merrick waved at her, then turned around and closed the cabin door in one smooth move.

He was afraid he would change his mind and refuse to leave if he stayed any longer.

Gillian watched his aircraft fly away. Her chest felt tight and sore for no reason. She realized this was the feeling of deep concern.

Hall One had been turned into a temporary exam venue. The tests would end at ten o’clock, so it was still

too early for her to go there.

She wandered around outside the exam hall and soon headed back to Hall Five.

The field medics looked quite surprised to see her show up. “Captain Sterling, we thought you took the day off. Did you come back to fetch something?”

“I took leave earlier because I had a sudden task and feared I could not make it back in time. Open my consultation desk now. I’m ready to receive patients.”

That small dose of high-grade nutritional supplements worked wonders. She felt full of energy right now.

“Great news! Captain Sterling is back on duty. Everyone who needs treatment can line up now.”

At the medic’s call, numerous soldiers quickly formed a queue.

Gillian found that time passed fastest when she kept herself busy.

It was nearly ten o’clock soon. She had already told others she would take a ten-minute break.

A beastman soldier who finished treatment let out a loud cry of surprise. “Ms. Locke is back!”

Gillian paused in her steps. All beastmen inside the medical hall started buzzing with excitement, talking about Elara’s return. Some even rushed straight outside.

She was carried along by the crowd toward Hall One.

The moment she arrived, she spotted a female sitting in a seat in the waiting area.

Her long hair flowed smoothly down her back like fine silk.

She had delicate features and an oval face. Her eyes held a cold grace. Her gaze never felt harsh, yet it set a subtle distance that made others look up to her involuntarily.

She carried a faint sense of detachment, like snowflakes falling in winter, stunning yet cold. Her temperament matched her name perfectly.

She looked even more breathtaking than her photos on the bulletin board.

Ten clerics stood beside her. All of them looked worn out, as if they had finished a long journey.

Gillian could tell from their aura that every single one was a level 3 cleric.

Elara kept her head lowered and focused on her wrist terminal.

Right then, Gillian’s own wrist terminal rang. It was an unfamiliar contact. She opened the message at once and found the sender was none other than Elara.

The female’s voice carried faint tiredness, yet her pride and joy could not be hidden.

“Greetings, Captain Sterling. I am Elara. I have traveled all the way back from Capital Planet. I bring ten
