Gillian had already asked the staff at the medical team about paternity testing services.
Sylas told her test results could come out the same night. He wondered who the test was for, yet Gillian chose not to tell him. She planned to stay and supervise the whole process to rule out any tampering.
She decided to wait for the official report before taking Elara home. She messaged her grandmother mainly to confirm whether their father had other children with other female individuals, which could explain the age discrepancy.
With confirmation from both her grandmother and Elara, all doubts about the age gap were cleared up
She intended to ask privately about why her parents parted ways in their younger days later on.
“I see.”
Mabel’s eyes had been strained from excessive weeping in past years. Though fully treated back then, her eyesight had grown weaker with age, which was only natural.
She stared at Elara, countless emotions welling up in her heart. In the end, she spoke softly in a gentle
tone.
“Good girl, if you truly are Lawrence’s daughter, do come visit me. It is all my fault for failing to take you in back then. I owe you a sincere apology.”
She thought of her late husband, as well as her son and his wife, who had died with no remains left behind.
She once believed Gillian was their only remaining family member. She never expected another child of their blood was still alive out there. Joy mixed with sorrow filled her heart, and she could not hold back her
tears.
“Grandma, please stop crying. I will rush back from work right away if you keep this up.”
Gillian regretted bringing up the matter so soon. She had let her eagerness get ahead of her.
“No need. I am fine. I am glad you told me the truth. Gillian, Elara, I will wait for both of you at home.”
“Grandma, my name is Elara Sterling.”
Elara stepped forward so Mabel could get a clearer look at her face.
Her eyes turned red as she spoke earnestly in a low voice. “I do not blame you for failing to take me in. I left with one of my mother’s friends back then, which caused us to miss each other. Please do not cry anymore. It hurts me to see you sad.”
Elara had not expected Gillian to contact Mabel directly.
She was not fully ready to officially acknowledge their family bond yet.

her.
“Good girl, I will prepare plenty of delicious food and wait for you two to come home for dinner,”
Mabel wiped away her tears and ended the video call quickly.
She did not wish to make the younger females worry further, so she held back her grief in front of Gillian. Though Gillian looked soft and mild-tempered, she was actually quite stubborn and would feel deeply upset seeing her grandma cry.
After ending the call, Gillian drew a small amount of blood from Elara and wrapped the sample with her own psionic power.
“I truly hope you are my elder sister.”
Elara offered no more words to prove herself. Hard facts would speak for themselves.
“Gillian, please think carefully over what I said. Black Rick has never been honest with you. He is simply not good enough for you.”
Gillian twitched her lips slightly. She could clearly feel how much Elara disliked Merrick, and she grew curious about the reason.
“May I ask why you hold such a strong dislike toward Black Rick?”
She spoke in a quiet voice, a little nervous of getting tapped on the head by her newly found elder sister.
“He has known about you through me all along, yet he pretended to have never met you. I can easily guess everything. He took full advantage of your vulnerable state when helping you clear the toxin. Any love built on lies will eventually collapse because of those very lies.”
Gillian left Elara’s dormitory in a daze. She could not help wondering if Merrick had been lying to her all this time.
She opened her wrist terminal and saw his latest message still displayed on the chat interface.
“Gillian, let us sort everything out once I return. Give me a chance. Do not let Elara take you away. I beg you.”
She did not send any reply. His status showed offline already, meaning he had ventured deep into the taint
source areas.
Only the exclusive legion StarNet remained accessible there, while ordinary StarNet signals would be completely cut off.
She decided to wait for his return and listen to his full explanation. It was better to clear up all misunderstandings face-to-face.
Still, Elara’s words lingered in her mind. Feelings rooted in deception would never last long.
Realizing she had already wasted twenty minutes, Gillian hurried straight toward the medical team
