Chapter 164 Trial Arena

Chapter 164 Trial Arena

“Elara, I don’t think I can save us. Oh god…”

Gillian’s small fist slapped weakly against Levi’s black tail. “I don’t want to die yet, Elara.”

“Sweet thing, with a face like yours, who’d want to kill you? Making you wish you were dead, now that suits you just fine.” A long, ugly laugh rolled out of Levi.

Levi’s laughter trailed off mid-breath. The tail coiled around Elara and Gillian suddenly felt like it had been ripped down the middle, and the thick black tip began to swell and rot outward.

The pain felt like it wouldn’t stop until it had dissolved him into nothing but liquid.

“Hey, big snake, why’d you stop laughing? Don’t tell me you weren’t born to smile?”

Gillian had wiped all three drops of pure purge onto Levi’s tail.

At such close range, her white healing aura wrapped Elara up perfectly, and Elara’s paralyzed body started getting feeling back almost at once.

The purge-eaten section of Levi’s tail no longer had the defense of level 7 beast armor, and Gillian sliced clean through it with a single golden blade.

Elara and Gillian dropped at once.

Gillian’s golden gauze cradled Elara and brought her gently down to the floor.

“Elara, let’s get out of here.”

Gillian dropped every other concern, hauled Elara onto her back, and bolted for Winterhush’s metal corridor.

But the black serpents, each one thicker than the last, had already circled around and boxed them in.

There was no chance these mercs were letting Gillian walk out with Ice Shadow.

“Boss, you all right?”

The other black serpents closed in around Levi. Chunks of rotted flesh and serpent blood dripped from his decaying tail and landed on their scales, burning worse than open flame. For a long minute, all anyone could hear was Levi’s screams. No one dared get close enough to help him.

“Merrick really is useless. How am I supposed to feel good about leaving you in his hands now?”

Elara couldn’t believe Merrick was taking this long. Gillian’s healing aura was already cancelling out the paralysis fast.

Gillian was incredible.

Levi saw Elara back on her feet and immediately tried to bolt in panic.

But Gillian stopped Elara and pressed four or five blackstones into her hand. “Elara, skin him for me. I want to boil his shed skin into a healing brew for Devon.”

“Done.”

When Merrick reached Winterhush, he found a line of 9th Legion beastmen and Winterhush’s security squad gathered at the entrance.

Every one of them was tangled up in a brawl, slick with blood, fighting like they had each mistaken the other for some vicious enemy.

“Commander, that’s the smell of a hallucinogen.”

Sylas caught a single whiff, and his serpent eyes started gleaming.

The concentration of the drug in the air around them was no small thing.

“Break them up.”

“Yes, sir!”

Merrick locked his metal helmet into place, vaulted past the brawling beastmen, and strode through Winterhush’s main door.

The Winterhush guides sat sobbing on the selection stage. The moment they saw the 9th Legion, they latched on like the soldiers were their lifeline, claiming armed robbers had hit the place, stolen everything, and already fled.

“Really? And the customers? Did they leave too?”

“No, we moved them to the VIP rooms. Let me take you there.”

The guide wiped away tears and turned to lead him.

Merrick struck instead. His palm came down hard, and the guide collapsed to the floor dead.

“Congratulations to Outer Planet’s Merrick Cole. You have eliminated one black serpent and earned one spirit stone.”

He had been right after all.

This wasn’t actually Winterhush.

Who had put this whole setup in motion?

Merrick brought his blade up, and another guide fell to the floor in one clean cut.

He silently slotted the White Griffin into his wrist terminal. The dormant griffin came alive in a flash of white light and landed on his shoulder, alert and ready.

“White Griffin, scan!”

The little white griffin spread its wings, circled once around Merrick, and a calm voice filtered into his car.
