Chapter 213 Flower Sprite

Merrick asked, “Elias? Asher? Those are the names you want?”

Gillian’d said it so naturally. She nodded. “In my dream, that’s what we named them.”

Merrick’s mind flicked back to the Trial Arena inside the Trial Forest. He’d seen those names there.

Is that a coincidence? Not a lot of coincidences in this world.

“Gillian, let’s call them Elias Sterling and Asher Sterling,” he said. “I like them.”

“Wait, really? They’ll take my name?”

Gillian hadn’t seen that coming. Merrick wasn’t even gonna argue over naming rights.

In the beast world, parents fought over last names the second the kids were born. Whoever got their name on the kids usually paid big for it.

She’d figured there was no way she could afford that. But honestly, with the mountain of debt Merrick was dragging around, he probably couldn’t outbid her anyway.

“Thanks, honey.”

She was in a ridiculously good mood. Merrick watched her, and his mood lifted right along with hers.

Spoil your wife and you’ll get rich. I’m about to strike it rich.

It was noon back in Wasteland City when Elara got a message.

Gillian sent, “Elara, I need a lot of live scale parasites. When the medical team pulls them off patients, don’t kill them. Have medical sedate them. If sedation doesn’t work, freeze them. Merrick’s sending Dominic to pick them up. Don’t hand them over to anyone else. These things are extremely dangerous.”

Elara pressed down on the scale parasite she’d just yanked off a patient. She jammed a sedative straight into its tiny mouth, and the thrashing thing went limp.

She tossed it into a metal bin and started bandaging the soldier. Then she forwarded Gillian’s message to ten clerics.

Elara sent back, “Gillian, don’t worry. I’m saving every last one for you.”

Gillian and the others spent half a day camped near the taint core. First, she briefed the soldiers on what a Binary Parasitic Beast even was. Then they mapped out a plan for catching one. After that, they waited for Dominic to show up with the scale parasites.

Night fell. The crevice, which had been dead silent all day, now had a team of people descending into it.

Gillian still wasn’t sure what drew the thing. The scale parasites, or her purge. So she sent down two at

This time she threaded cryogold wire through their bodies and anchored her psionic power to the wire, That kept the purge output lower than earlier.

Once the parasites hit the dark, they freaked out even worse than before. They made it maybe six to ten feet down and then flattened themselves against the wall. Refused to budge.

But the team topside had way more patience than those things did. Gillian waited about as long as she had during the day, then made her move.

She pushed her healing psionic power down the cryogold wire and wrapped one parasite in a thick cloud of the purge. Enough to coat it. Not enough to hurt it.

Is it gonna show?

A black shape shot forward and swallowed both parasites in one grab.

It must’ve remembered the easy meal from before. It had faced no consequences last time. This time it didn’t bolt. It just stayed there and started chewing. The crunching made everyone’s teeth ache. Both parasites were gone in seconds.

“Everyone on alert.”

Gillian’s voice was soft, but it landed like a shock. She didn’t need the parasites anymore. She was dead sure now. Whatever was down there, it wanted the purge she made.

And it was almost definitely a Binary Parasitic Beast, just like the White Griffin had said. The thing craved the purge. The White Griffin’s feed backed it up.

After crunching through the parasites, the shadow still wasn’t satisfied. It hadn’t gotten what it really wanted, and it was getting twitchy.

Gillian burned through a fistful of blackstone, draining it fast. She pulled the energy in and pushed it straight into her white psionic power, pumping out a steady stream of the purge.

The shadow followed. Step by step, she lured it out of the crevice. When it finally crawled into view, everybody stared.
