Tristan was already waiting for her. The pink-white fox was popping beast crystals one after another. He had to push to level 6, maybe higher, and fast.

Merrick had told him his abilities might be the key to cracking this whole thing open.

“Alright. Let’s go in.”

Gillian knew Tristan was there to watch her back.

The metal door slid open, then shut

This time Merrick wasn’t next to her. He stayed outside, tracking everything through the display the White Griffin was feeding him.

Sylas stood by the door too, waiting for her to bring back something good.

The second Gillian stepped inside, she pulled the cloth off the cryogold cage and went still. A pair of flat, dead eyes met hers-ice-cold.

The flower beast was already awake. The sedative was wearing off faster now. She couldn’t move yet, but she was locked in.

Gillian logged it. Binary Parasitic Beasts build tolerance to sedatives. Two doses and the effect was already cut in half.

She opened the cage and lifted the flower beast into her arms.

The girl’s eyes went wide. Genuinely shocked. Her pale lips moved, and a thin, whispery voice came out. “Mom.”

Gillian didn’t answer. She tapped the White Griffin and pulled up a display. The screen was huge and swallowed the girl’s attention whole.

“Don’t be scared. Just relax. I’m right here.”

Gillian’d already planned what to show her. It started from the very beginning: a baby being born, then a mother and child together.

The flower beast had never seen anything like it, but she was sharp. She soaked it all in fast.

While the video held her, Gillian crushed a slow-release sedative between her fingers.

The flower beast felt the sting fade. She could move again. Her roots could’ve snapped Gillian’s neck in half a second.

Gillian’s heart kicked.

Is she gonna attack?

A faint white glow lit up in Gillian’s palm. She was testing. Trying to figure out what made the flower beast treat her differently

The glow didn’t get the same excited reaction this time After the raw meat thing, the girl wasnt so quick to trust her anymore.

Gillian took her hand, smiled softly, hoping the girl could feel she meant no harm. Im not gonna hurt you. I came here just to be with you

She could feel the flower beast hesitating Maybe it was because she’d healed her wounds. Maybe because Gillian was the first person shed ever seen Whatever it was, the attachment was still there. This could still be salvaged.

Tristan was studying the flower beast too. His beastman instincts were screaming that she was about to strike

The pink-white fox lifted his head and locked eyes with her His pink irises flared with glamour craft. He’d barely scraped his way to Level 4, and all he did was boost the affection the flower beast already felt for Gillian

It grabbed her attention sure But the second she registered him, her face went ice-cold.

Tristan’s stomach dropped She was way too sensitive.

Then the flower beast saw it was just a fox, and her expression eased a little. She shot out a root, wrapped it around Tristan, and dragged him right up to her face.

Gillian laid her hand on the root, voice sharp. You can’t do that. That hurts him.”

The flower beast paused. She watched Gillian’s face harden, and after a beat, she let the fox go. But she kept him right under her nose. Tristan could feel it. She was eyeing his beast crystal.

That was when Gillian’s gold psionic power moved. It shaped itself into a copy of the flower beast’s own roots, sliding out from under her skirt and wrapping around Tristan.

This one’s mine. Don’t hurt him.”

She kept it short. Even if the girl couldn’t follow the words, she’d remember the shape of them.

Tristan’s face went hot.

She said I’m hers.

Then he was airborne. Gillian scooped him up and tucked him behind her. “Sorry. You’re gonna have to hide back here for a bit.

Tristan nodded and pressed himself into Gillian’s shadow. He hadn’t gotten his strength back yet. Losing to this flower beast wasn’t embarrassing.
