Chapter 32 Caught on Camera

Almost every beastman in the hall turned a hard look on Tristan.

They were out there bleeding for the legion while their families got muscled around like this. Nobody could stomach it.

“A level 5 bullying a soldier’s family. The guy deserves what’s coming.”

“Let’s all sign a complaint and get him kicked out of the 9th Legion. I sure as hell wouldn’t trust him to have my back.”

The murmurs rippled through the room.

Tristan’s face darkened until it looked ready to drip. “Captain Sterling, what kind of nonsense are you spewing? You’re the one who stole my terminal.”

“You couldn’t take mine, so you used your mind illusion to bend everyone in the room and force a trade!”

Gillian’s voice cracked, and she covered her mouth like a woman whose heart was breaking on the spot.

“I tried to do you a kindness with the healing alloy. How does that make me the villain? You rushed in to grab my terminal and knocked me down without hearing me out. If Lieutenant Colonel Parker hadn’t shown up, I could have been…”

That poisonous Gillian was still spinning her lies. He had been trying to kill her yesterday, plain and simple.

“You really think anyone’s going to buy that?”

Tristan thought the whole thing was rich. She seriously believed she could scramble fact and fiction this easily?

“I used my mind illusion yesterday, sure. But somebody had to have a camera rolling. The footage will show whether I laid a hand on you!”

“Major Lawson didn’t hit me, of course, because Lieutenant Colonel Parker arrived in time. Otherwise, Mabel and I don’t know what we would have done.”

Gillian flicked open her wrist terminal. “I record everything that happens to me. I have my own footage from that day. You want to watch it?”

Sylas knew Tristan had always run on impulse. He came from money, and whatever he wanted, he got.

And right now, step by step, Gillian was inching him onto a hot grill.

The smart play here was for him to drop it.

“Tris. We can talk this out in private. Now is not the time.”

Sylas locked eyes with Tristan, hoping to bury the whole thing.

But Tristan was not the type to swallow a slight. He refused to believe he couldn’t clear his own name in front of these people.

This female was rotten to the core, slick and crooked, flipping right and wrong on its head. Did she really think nobody had the guts to put her in her place?

Tristan was not the least bit afraid of someone like her.

“Sylas, fine, play her video. I don’t believe this poisonous female can fool everyone in this room!”

He was going to peel her open for the whole crowd to see.

Sylas could feel the situation slipping further off the rails. It could not keep going like this.

“There has to be a misunderstanding here. Captain Sterling, can you give him a pass on this one?”

As if Gillian had been the one trying to drag things out.

Ten minutes of this nonsense and she could already have treated ten more soldiers.

“Sylas, the moment I walked in, he was on my back. He has wasted ten minutes of my time. He’s a major. You and I are only captains. Where does mercy come in?”

If Sylas wanted to mediate, he had picked the wrong target.

Listening to Gillian’s tone and the half-amused smile playing on her lips, Sylas understood she was offering Tristan an out, but only if he would let it go.

“Tris, Captain Sterling has a sweet face and a generous heart. Whatever this is, it’s a misunderstanding. We’ll settle it privately later.”

Sylas planted himself in Tristan’s path, hoping Tristan would cool down instead of walking

headfirst into the trap Gillian had laid out.

Tristan shoved Sylas aside with a small push, hurt flickering through his fox eyes.

“Sylas, move. She’s the one in the wrong. Whose side are you

on?”

The peacekeeping routine left Tristan deeply disappointed. Who exactly was he doing all thi for?

“Sylas, you have no idea what this female is really like. Someone like her doesn’t deserve your protection.”
