Chapter 78 The White Griffin Wakes

It came down to this very crystal.

It might look like nothing more than a beautiful stone, but the system housed inside it could overturn. both planets in the entire beastman world.

If they ever cracked the White Griffin open completely, the Outer Planet might even rise above the Capi Planet.

“Three. People are walking all over us. You want to let them take a dump on us next? Hell no. We’re going to dig up every ancestor they ever had.”

Merrick watched the blue-flame barrier of code burning across Number Three’s terminal, the kind of firewall that promised to swallow Wasteland City whole.

Whoever had lit that fire on the Outer Planet, Merrick figured, was due for a taste of being burned alive.

“Now let’s see whose shield is stronger.”

The White Griffin, the most powerful independent terminal of them all, linked instantly with Merrick’s

own.

A drop of Merrick’s blood hit the access key, and the White Griffin’s permissions activated on the spot.

“Ping. Initiate primary Void system? New energy signature detected. Initiate secondary Dark Trial?”

This time, unlike all the times before, an extra command had appeared on the list.

Number Two looked baffled. “What the hell is Dark Trial?”

Lucian’s brow knit together. “Yeah. That definitely wasn’t there before.”

Number Three’s reaction was different. He shot up out of his seat. “Commander, when did you unlock the second command?”

Six years back, Merrick had only managed to activate the first tier of the White Griffin’s functions.

And that alone had been enough to turn every terminal in the Elemental Cities into a brick and send the major families crashing to their knees, begging for mercy.

When you had nothing to lose, nobody scared you.

Merrick had sat right in their living rooms and held out his hand for the money.

If the Elemental Cities refused to help, the soldiers in Wasteland City wouldn’t survive. And the second they fell, Merrick had promised, the taint corruption would tear across all five cities at the speed of light.

Not a single major family in the Elemental Cities saw him without grinding their teeth, itching to blast him out of the sky with their cannons.

But none of them had a choice.

The White Griffin had cracked their military terminals and turned their own ships’ cannons back on them.

That was how the 9th Legion, on its last legs, had clawed back its first wave of funding and manpower.

“Commander, we’ve been chasing that second command for six years without a single opening. Why is it lighting up today out of nowhere?”

Number Three was so worked up his words tripped over each other. He had to ball his fist fight to stop himself from hauling Merrick into a scanner for a slice-by-slice analysis of whatever had changed inside him.

Something inside Merrick had to have changed.

“It’s probably because of Gillian.”

The only new development in the past few days was the presence of Gillian’s essence inside his primal

core.

It glowed as a flame edged in gold with a white heart at its center.

“Just now, I found out the same time the rest of you did.”

Watching the White Griffin pulse with a light it had never given off before, Merrick was every bit as shaken as they were.

Merrick tapped into the second command’s description, and once he had read the details, a flash of delight crossed his face. He glanced over at Number Three with a heated spark in his eyes.

“Initiate Void system. Initiate Dark Trial.”

He gave the order without a moment’s hesitation.

“Just wrecking their system isn’t enough. I want the people pulling the strings.”

Merrick rose to his full height and looked at his three companions.

“Game of hide and seek starts now.”

Heat lit up in the eyes of Number Three and the rest as they patched their terminals straight into the White Griffin.

“Then let’s hit them with something big, commander!”

Gillian had just stepped out of her cleric quarters when Merrick’s message dropped in.

It filled an entire screen.

“The roses I picked up along the way from someone’s garden. Cost me nothing. If you like them, Gillian, I’ll grab some more tomorrow.
