Seeing Leo still shouting insults, the black griffin tore open half of the golden lion’s shoulder with its sharp fangs. The fierce pain drew loud screams from him.

“Speak. Who stands behind you? Who ordered you to target the 9th Legion?”

“You have made too many enemies with all your misdeeds.”

Refusing to yield, Merrick pressed the lion’s head under his hoof. His fangs pierced its neck, nearly shattering its spiritual core.

“I want no useless words.”

“Set me free now, and I will tell you everything.”

Leo endured the agony. Only twenty seconds remained until the Blue Phoenix System teleported him away. He needed to drag out time to wait for rescue.

He believed Merrick would never kill him outright, for he held plenty of vital secrets.

“If you keep silent, I will tear you to pieces.”

Merrick had accepted Gillian’s team request. A string of names popped up on the team panel. He felt relieved knowing Gillian was safe, yet soon noticed two names vanish without warning.

Unease crept over him once more.

He wondered if Lucian and Finn had reached her in time.

Leo saw the thoughtful look on the black griffin’s face and sensed hesitation.

“The one backing me holds immense power on Capital Planet. Let me go right now, or you will end up dying a terrible death.”

Merrick lost all patience.

Knowing the foe was merely stalling for time, he drove his fangs straight through the golden lion’s head.

Leo never expected Merrick to strike without the slightest hesitation.

All his schemes came to nothing in an instant.

A faint blue light wrapped around his scattered psionic power and fled rapidly. With his main body dead, the remnant energy drifted into the body of a nearby female. Both of them fainted on the golden bed at

once.

Watching the golden lion turn into wisps of white light, the goblin beastman and Squeak grew utterly alarmed. They never thought Merrick would end lives so swiftly after asking questions.

Merrick spared the young golden lion’s life for the moment. He ripped off all its limbs, leaving Felix screaming weakly in agony.

He planned to leave this foe for Gillian to deal with personally.

“Black Rick, spare our lives, and we will answer every question you have.”

The gray rat chose to surrender. He had amassed vast wealth and refused to die in such a meaningless place.

He was nothing more than a merchant who took any deal offered. He never knew those items were meant to target others.

The goblin beastman nodded in agreement.

Black Rick was far too brutal. He hurt the young lion badly, and they dared not resist anymore.

Merrick crushed the lingering white light and fixed his gaze on the goblin beastman.

“Three months ago, tainted beasts ambushed me. What did you hide inside my bio-armor?”

The goblin beastman bore a special bloodline similar to pangolins.

Beastmen of his clan crafted top-grade eco-metal suits favored by major factions. Their clan also enjoyed high prestige across Capital Planet.

“Black Rick, I did not make that armor. It was produced and delivered directly by core clans on Capital Planet. I had no idea what was hidden inside it.”

The goblin beastman felt extremely wronged. “You should take revenge on those ruthless master clans instead of picking on me.”

“I bought the suit from you. Naturally, you are the one to take responsibility. Should I go ask that rat instead?”

“Black Rick, how can you say such things? Did you even settle the payment?”

All fear faded from the goblin’s face, leaving only anger. “You still owe me money on credit!”

Merrick glanced at him coldly.

He could not recall this goblin beastman at all.

He owed so many people payments, and this man was nowhere near notable.

Many under his command ran tabs, too, and none of them complained.

A real male would never fuss over such trivial debts.

His deep eyes carried faint pressure, making the goblin step back nervously.
