There was absolutely no way he was staying here alone to do homework; he'd look like a total idiot.
Clara’s gaze remained perfectly calm. "Didn't I say you have to finish your homework before doing anything else?"
Ethan looked like he was about to cry.
His life was too hard. Being forced to do homework by Clara was bad enough, but getting sold out by his favorite older brother was the ultimate betrayal.
He asked pitifully, "Can I just memorize ten more vocabulary words instead?"
Clara reached out and ruffled his hair. "Good boy, Ethan. Keep working on those words."
Her expression was so gentle that Jules momentarily lost himself, almost seeing the reflection of his late mother in her face.
Clara raised an eyebrow at him, instantly reverting to the icy, unapproachable girl.
She asked coolly, "Are you absolutely sure you're not going to do your homework?"
Jules scoffed. "That's right, I'm not doing it! What are you going to do to me—ah!"
A bloodcurdling scream tore through the living room.
Clara had flipped him entirely over her shoulder, slamming him brutally onto the floor.
The living room was covered in a thick, plush rug, but being thrown down with that much force still hurt like hell.
He clutched his backside, howling in pain. "Clara, I hate you! I'm not done with you! I—"
"I've heard enough empty threats to last a lifetime." Clara dusted off her hands. "I'll ask you one last time. Are you doing your homework or not?"
"No! I won't!"
Clara leaned down and hoisted him completely off the ground.
She held him suspended in midair.
His arms trembled slightly.
Jules felt like he was going to be dropped and smashed into the ground at any second.
Meanwhile, Ethan, possessing an incredible sense of self-preservation, had already scrambled over and rolled up the plush rug, exposing the freezing, rock-hard marble floor underneath.
