Raymond also wrote that he had tried to run away countless times, but he was always caught and dragged

back.

Every time they were sent out to beg, someone watched nearby. Most of them had crippled legs and couldn’t run far. When they were caught, they were beaten badly.

After a while, he didn’t dare run anymore.

His heart grew hopeless. Numb.

On top of that, those people made them drink a kind of drug. They had to take it every few days. If they didn’t, they would feel sick and miserable. They couldn’t live without it.

He paused, then wrote again. “These past few days I craved it too, but it was lighter.”

I asked, “Why? Does the effect weaken over time?”

Raymond shook his head and slowly wrote, “Because I saw you. It didn’t hurt as much.”

My heart felt like something squeezed it hard. It ached and stung at the same time.

Nita let out a low whimper deep in my mind. She hurt too.

Raymond looked completely exhausted after writing all that, like a lamp that had burned through all its

oil.

“Rest first. We’ll talk about the rest later.”

I quickly said that, then carried him to the bed, tucked a blanket around him, and watched him close his

eyes.

But I couldn’t bring myself to leave.

I was afraid that if I stepped away for even a moment, everything in front of me would collapse like a dream. When I woke up, he would be gone.

“Damn it! We have to wipe out those Umbra Order scum. They even targeted kids. It’s unforgivable!”

Nita roared in my mind.

“Yes. You’re right.”

I answered in anger, then shifted into my wolf form and carefully curled around him. Maybe my strong scent reassured him. His tightly furrowed brows finally relaxed.

But my heart still felt like it was being stabbed over and over with steel needles. The pain was unbearable.

Raymond slept for a full day and night this time. I didn’t move for that entire day and night either.

He had come back to me.

I nodded and looked down at Raymond’s small, thin body–a seven–year–old who looked like he was five. He had barely grown these past two years. I didn’t know what other poisons they had forced into him. Until he was fully examined, I couldn’t rest easy.

“What about you?” I asked Samuel.

“I’m going to wipe out the Umbra Order.” A cold light flashed in his eyes. “I already had the chief of the Lunaris Public Security Office send an urgent report to King Vaughn in my name, explaining the situation. The elite warriors nearby are assembled. We move this afternoon.”

“I’m going too.”

The words left my mouth without hesitation.

These past two days, anger had been burning inside me–it burned so fiercely I couldn’t sleep at night.

I had to do something.

Samuel frowned. “You…”

“I have to go,” I cut him off. “What they did to him, they have to pay for it.”

He was silent for a moment, then finally nodded. “Alright. After this is settled, we’ll go back to Silvermoon Pack together.”

“Okay,”

Raymond had been listening quietly. At that point, his little hand suddenly tightened around my finger, gripping hard.

He didn’t speak. He just looked up at me, his eyes filled with tears.
