Chapter 168 A Chance?
Laila’s POV:
After I settled Raymond down, I started translating the ledger.
The more I translated, the more horrified I felt.

The dense records on the parchment were like thorns stabbing into my eyes. In just one month, that group had handled 347 children. On average, they trafficked more than a dozen young lives every single day.
And an organization like that had survived on this land for two years without being discovered or wiped
out.
Moon Goddess above, how had they managed it?
I didn’t sleep the entire night.
The moon outside the window climbed from the east to the west, and the quill in my hand never stopped moving.
But Ancient Friselian was incredibly complex. By the time the sky began to pale at dawn, I had translated less than one–tenth.
The translation couldn’t be delayed, but Raymond’s body needed to be examined as soon as possible.
So after Raymond woke up and finished breakfast, we got into a carriage heading back to Silvermoon
Pack.
Samuel took the driver’s seat himself and gave us the carriage compartment.
The carriage was wide and comfortable, lined with thick wool blankets. A small heater sat in the corner. Samuel had arranged it with care, saying Raymond was weak and couldn’t catch a chill.
I stayed inside with Raymond while continuing the translation work.
The carriage rocked gently as it moved along. The wheels rolled over the stone road with a low rumbling
sound.
Raymond leaned against me, a small bundle, so light it barely felt real.
I remembered the honey cakes Martha used to make.
Before I left Silvermoon Pack, she had stuffed a package wrapped in oil paper into my hands. Honey oat cakes were Raymond’s favorite snack when he was little; every time he finished one, he would lick his fingers clean.
I opened the paper and handed him a piece.
Raymond took it and bit into it.

Then he started crying

Tears fell one drop at a time onto the honey cake, but he kept eating. He cried as he ate. After finishing one prece, he looked at me again.
I handed him a second piece.
He took it and bit down again. Then he freed one hand and gestured awkwardly.
It took me a while to understand. He wanted to say it tasted good.
My nose stung, and tears almost rushed out again.
I took a deep breath and forced the ache down, smiling as I stroked his hair. “From now on, whatever you want to cat, we’ll have the kitchen make it. Honey candy, roasted lamb, apple pie, rye bread–whatever you want”
Raymond looked at me. His amber eyes brightened for a moment, then quickly dimmed.
“What is it?” I asked sharply.
He just shook his head and said nothing, only pressed himself closer to me.
I didn’t ask further.
Some things, I was afraid to ask too deeply.
I was afraid that if I did, I would not be able to bear it.
So I steadied my thoughts and focused on the translation.
The carriage swayed gently. Raymond’s breathing gradually became steady, and he fell asleep in my arms.
When I was translating the third ledger, a piece of paper suddenly slipped out from between the pages.
“Hm?”
I picked it up instinctively. The edges were slightly torn. It looked like it had been ripped from another book. It was also written in Ancient Friselian, but instead of recording transactions, it contained content related to the Moon Goddess.
I had intended to set it aside for later, but when I caught sight of a phrase, my breathing stopped for a
moment.
Stilimoon Sanctum.
I saw that word.
What about Stillmoon Sanctum?
I couldn’t stop myself from reading on. Some words I didn’t immediately recognize, but I quickly found
