Seeing him cry like that made Martha and the others cry as well. Pearl cried the loudest.

Laila’s eyes also turned red when she saw everyone tearing up. She had already cried for many days. Now, what remained in her heart was mostly joy and relief.

So she didn’t stop them and let them cry a little out of happiness.

But Raymond’s tears were the tears of grief.

Faulkner didn’t arrange for Raymond to stay in his old courtyard. Even though everything had been repaired, he was afraid the familiar place would bring back painful memories. So Raymond would stay with Laila for now. At least surrounded by a familiar scent, he might feel safer.

After Raymond was settled, Laila called everyone to the side hall and asked Faulkner to send someone to Snowpeak Pack with a message.

She said they’d visit in a few days once Raymond was feeling a little better

“If they want to see him sooner, they’re welcome to come here.”

What Laila didn’t know was that the Kohlers didn’t believe the story at all. When Faulkner sent someone to deliver the message, the reply he received was cold. They said that if the Silvermoon Pack insisted on finding some impostor to inherit the duke’s title, Laila shouldn’t use Raymond’s name. Doing so would be an insult to Raymond, Nicky, and Miriam.

Hearing such a response surprised Laila, but she could understand it.

Before seeing Raymond with her own eyes, she hadn’t dared believe he was still alive either. She had been afraid of facing disappointment again.

So she didn’t immediately take Raymond to Snowpeak Pack. Instead, she invited Rowan. Compared to convincing the Kohlers that Raymond was alive, helping him recover his health was far more important.

Rowan was very close to Diana and often visited Silvermoon Pack to treat the Conlays, so Raymond knew her and trusted her.

While waiting for the examination results, Faulkner also told Laila about the rumors. “Regarding that matter. Alpha Samson has already agreed to investigate. They’ve captured several people for questioning. We should have answers soon.”

Laila nodded. She hadn’t expected something like that to happen while she was away.

She trusted Samson’s ability to handle things.

After a while, Rowan finished the examination. She gave Raymond a piece of honey candy, then pulled Laila aside to talk outside.
