Third–person POV:
“That kind of drug is tricky.”

Rowan said thoughtfully, “For adult werewolves, it’s manageable. The wolf spirit in their bodies helps break it down, and it usually passes in three to five days. But it’s different for children. Their wolf spirits haven’t awakened yet, so the drug targets their bloodline directly. If they take it for too long, they’ll completely lose control of themselves.”
She paused and glanced toward the room before lowering her voice. “From what I see, he’s doing well right now. During your trip back, did he have any bad episodes?”
Laila thought back. Raymond had indeed had an episode on the road. He curled up in the corner of the carriage, trembling all over, his forehead covered in sweat, and his nails dug into his palms until they bled. But he didn’t make a single sound and forced himself to endure it.
In the days since then, up until now, there hadn’t been another episode.
“It hasn’t happened much,” Laila said. “The last time it did, he managed to hold it in. Oh, and Prince Vance said that when Raymond was in Lunaris, the attacks were severe. He would slam into walls and hurt himself. But after I got there, I never saw anything like that.”
Rowan sighed, her voice tinged with sympathy. “The beginning is always the hardest. Back then, the poison in his body hadn’t stabilized yet, so the attacks would drive him almost insane. But the symptoms get lighter each time until the addiction is completely broken. If he can endure it now, that means he’s already passed the worst stage.”
She paused again before continuing, “This drug causes serious damage to the body. Even after the addiction is gone, he’ll need a long time to recover. We’ll have to restore the nutrients he’s lost. Just look at his height. He’s nearly a head shorter than other children his age. Part of it is that he probably hasn’t had many full meals over the years. The other part is that the drug suppressed his bone growth.
“When pups go through withdrawal, we have to use herbs to help suppress the symptoms, or they can’t handle it. But this kid forced himself through it on his own. That takes an incredible amount of willpower. Laila, if he’s raised well and taught properly, he’ll accomplish great things someday.”
Laila didn’t reply.
She remembered the first time she saw Samuel in Lunaris. The man looked terrible. His eye sockets were sunken, and he looked so haggard that he seemed skinned raw. For an alpha to end up like that, Raymond must have been incredibly difficult to handle back then. She could easily imagine it.
Raymond was still thin now. But compared to the first time she saw him, he was much better. His pale face had some color again. His body was no longer as stick–thin as before. There was even a little flesh returning to his cheeks.
As for his height… Because he walked with a limp, he had developed the habit of hunching over. That made hum look especially small. But today, when he stood still for her to measure him, she noticed he fried hard to straighten his back. He wasn’t actually as short as she had imagined.

Of course, compared to a normal seven–year–old, he was still noticeably smaller.
Rowan planned to let him recover first.

They would rebuild his nutrition and strength, then clear the remaining poison from his body. Once his health was stable, they would break and reset the bones in his leg.
As for the detox treatment, Rowan said it couldn’t be rushed. It had to be done slowly.
When the poison was completely cleared, and the swelling in his throat went down, Raymond might finally be able to speak again.
“How long until he can talk?” Laila asked.
Rowan shook her head. “Hard to say. But it shouldn’t take too long.”
When she was escorted out, she glanced up at the moon and sighed. “Being taken like that, he naturally suffered terribly. But he escaped the massacre of his entire family. In a way, that’s still a bit of luck in the middle of tragedy.”
