Snowpeak Pack’s Luna, Moira Kohler, was in the inner room with her mother–in–law, Phoebe Kohler. When she heard the news, her hands trembled so much that she could barely hold anything.
She forced herself to stay calm and feed Phoebe a Heartguard Tonic. Then, she bent down, crying as she whispered, “Phoebe, Raymond isn’t dead. He’s back.”
Phoebe had been weak and confused for days. She didn’t hear clearly.
She thought Moira was once again muttering about Raymond, so she sighed heavily. Tears slid from her clouded eyes. “Miriam… Raymond… My precious ones… All gone…”
“No, Phoebe!” Moira gripped Phoebe’s hand, her voice urgent and shaking. “Raymond is back! He’s not dead! Really! He’ll be here soon!”
Phoebe’s pupils constricted sharply.
Summoning strength from somewhere, she grabbed Moira’s wrist, her bony fingers almost digging in.
Her voice trembled hard. “What did you just say?”

“By the Moon, how could you let this child suffer so much? The Conlays have been loyal for generations. How did they end up like this? Moon Goddess, you’re too cruel…”
Laila couldn’t bear to hear words so full of grief.
She quickly turned and walked out of the main hall, stopping under the veranda and tilting her head up to look at the moon. Lately, her tears flowed as if they cost nothing. Before, she had forced herself to endure. Now they simply fell. All the tears she had suppressed over the years seemed to be pouring out lately.
It took more than an hour before everyone could finally hold back their tears and sit in the hall again with some calm. Phoebe was helped out as well. Together, they listened as Laila explained everything that had happened from beginning to end.
