“What if I say no?” Laila pressed her lips together, planning to see just how far Holt would go. “Will you kill me?”

“Of course not. Laila, I told you, I’ll take responsibility for you. Even though we’ve dissolved the mate bond, that still stands.” Holt shook his head immediately. “I’ll always have soldiers protecting you. I’ll also let you keep your parents‘ den. You’ll be safe living there. No fool will dare bother you.

“So trust me. Give me the land deed. I’ll develop the pack well and let your family’s legacy live on in another form!”

He extended his hand toward Laila.

Elara shouted impatiently from the side. “Why are you wasting your breath on her? Holt, just beat her down and take the deed!”
