“Moonlit Valley?”

The young man who looked strikingly like Damian, Elyse’s adopted son Ethan Harmon, shot to his feet and asked urgently, “Ms. Contay, you went to Moonlit Valley? Then what about my mother? How is she?”
“Not well at all.” Laila looked straight at Ethan. “If you cared about her, why didn’t you go see her yourself?”
Ethan glanced at Damian. Damian’s expression was cold and unreadable, and he said nothing.
“I was at school. I couldn’t get away,” Ethan answered awkwardly.
“Really? You couldn’t leave because you were at school. Then what about everyone else? A place like Moonlit Valley, and not one of you even sent anyone to take care of her. If it hadn’t been for Rowan’s apprentices, Marigold and Wren, how many days do you think she could’ve lasted there?”
“That’s enough, Ms. Conlay. My family’s affairs have nothing to do with you,” Elyse’s eldest daughter, Janice Harmon, snapped as she stood up, clearly unhappy.
Laila’s gaze cut toward her like a blade. “I’ve seen plenty of things wearing human skin, but something wearing the face of a daughter while treating its own mother with cold indifference, that’s a first.”
“You!” Janice’s eyes instantly reddened. “What gives you the right to say that? How do you know I didn’t treat my mother well? Were you there to see it when I did?”
“No, I wasn’t there to see that. What I did see was that when your mother died, not a single one of you was with her.”
Ethan’s body swayed. “What? Mother is dead?”
He looked like he couldn’t believe it, tears pouring down his face. Laila had no idea whether those tears were real.
Elyse’s two daughters, Janice and Lily Harmon, both froze for a moment, their eyes turning red, but somehow, not a single tear would come,
Damian, on the other hand, pressed a hand to his chest and let out a heavy sigh. “I told her long ago to stay in Bloodmoon Pack and recover there, but she refused to listen. She insisted on going to Moonlit Valley herself…
Before Laila could speak, Viola behind her had already exploded with fury.
“That’s bullshit! No one wants to leave home when they’re seriously ill and go die alone in some freezing wasteland. You forced her to go there, and you deliberately pressured her to dissolve the mate bond at exactly that time, making her even weaker. If any of you had treated her even a little better, she wouldn’t have died this soon!”
Viola was baring her teeth with rage.
Damian’s face darkened at once, and he released his Alpha pressure.
“Who are you?” he roared. “What gives you the right to speak to me like that?
“I already told you, she chose to go by herself. Everyone in the den can testify to that!”

“Hah.” Viola showed no fear at all. She released her own Alpha pressure in return. “Now that she’s dead, of course you can say she went willingly. I only hope that before you die, Damian, you also find some broken–down place to die all alone with not a single family member by your side. If you can do that, then maybe I’ll believe your lies.”
Delilah looked at her and frowned. “Who exactly are you? Why are you so crude?”
“Troublemaker, you’re not worthy of speaking to me,” Viola said with biting sarcasm.
“You!” Delilah immediately turned to Damian with a wronged expression. “Alpha, she’s bullying me!”
