He stood motionless for a brief second, then tossed aside his paperwork, shifted into his wolf form, and crashed right through the window.

The Justice Department office fell silent, every agent gaping at the spectacle. No one moved.

Someone finally spoke up. “What’s going on with Prince Vance?”

Another voice piped up. “Did the suspect we’ve been chasing finally show up?”

A third person called out, “What are we waiting for? Move!”

Suddenly, the entire department descended into chaos. Agents transformed in a flurry, following Samuel’s lead as they leaped from the windows and charged after him.

A stampede of wolves tore down the street, paws pounding the pavement.

Pedestrians stopped to watch, murmuring as the pack thundered by.

One man gasped, “Isn’t that Prince Vance at the front? Why is he running like that? Did something happen?”

A woman clutched her purse. “No clue. I just hope this doesn’t mean another war.”

Someone else whispered, “Please, let Rydar Kingdom stay peaceful.”

Samuel heard none of it.

He sprinted without pause, the city blurring past him.

He reached the den in seven minutes, leaving the others trailing behind.

He stepped inside, quickly smoothed his hair and straightened his clothes, then strode to the lounge.

The sight of Laila made his eyes light up.

Then he saw Morgana sitting next to her, and his mood soured at once,

Morgana looked at Samuel with a mix of satisfaction and irritation.

She was pleased Samuel made it home in time to eat with them.

But she also knew he was only early because of Laila.

That was what irked her.

She glanced between Samuel and Laila, feeling quietly defeated.

Anyone could see those two fit together perfectly.

Standing beside Samuel, even on her toes, Morgana looked childlike.

Samuel broke the silence and faced Laila. “You wanted to see me? What’s going on?” Could it be that she missed him?

Laila’s heartbeat kicked up, but she kept her expression steady.

“Prince Vance, I need your help.”

He realized she wasn’t here for him.

Disappointment washed over him, though he masked it.

“What happened?”

“It’s about Lillian…”

Laila explained everything to him. She mentioned that Shawn now worked for the Justice Department, which made him Samuel’s subordinate.

Samuel’s face grew more and more tense as he listened.

Morgana slammed her palm on the table. “That worthless man! Samuel, you need to do something.”

Samuel said nothing.

Morgana’s anger boiled over. “Fire him! Send him out to sweep the streets!”

She didn’t let either of them interrupt. “And Lillian–how could she allow herself to be treated like this? She’s an Alpha! She has a friend like you, Laila! Why does she let herself get bullied?”

Laila exhaled, her patience thinning. “Her parents are stuck in the past. If she breaks the mate bond, they’ll lose their minds. They might even do something drastic. Besides, she’s completely in love with Shawn. She loves him, more than anything.”

Morgana shook her head. “If she loves him that much, she should fight for him. Make him behave. If I were her, I’d thrash Shawn until he learned his lesson.”

If it were me, I’d never suffer that humiliation!

She huffed in frustration. “Laila, next time you go to Thunder Pack, bring me along. I want to straighten her out.”

Laila gave a strained laugh. “We’ll see.”

Lillian was already so delicate. Morgana’s approach would only make things worse.

When the discussion ended, Laila stood up to leave.

Samuel tried to stop her. “You’re not staying for dinner?”
