Chapter 290 It’s Wet
Chapter 290 It’s Wet
Third–person POV:
Almost instantly, Shawn yanked Lillian up from the desk, his hands rough as he forced her to get dressed.
His voice shifted, suddenly gentle and coaxing. “Lillian, I treat you well, don’t I?”
He changed moods so quickly that Lillian’s cheeks were still wet with tears, her eyes vacant and lost.

His face hardened again, menace curling in his tone. “Laila is about to come in. Don’t say a single bad word about me in front of her, or else…”
His gaze dropped to Lillian’s belly, the warning unspoken but sharp as a blade. She understood the threat perfectly.
Lillian stared at him, horror flickering across her face. “This is your pup too!”
Shawn replied coldly, “Only a pup that won’t betray me is mine.”
Lillian shook her head, tears falling in silent rivers down her cheeks.
By the time Laila entered, Lillian sat alone in the room, her face blotchy and red.
Laila noticed the redness around Lillian’s eyes the moment she walked in.
Nita’s voice brushed across her mind. “That bastard’s scent is everywhere. He was just here.”
Laila frowned, suspicion darkening her features. “Shawn was just here, wasn’t he?”
Lillian hadn’t expected Laila to pick up on it so quickly. She hesitated, then nodded.
Laila’s stare grew sharper. “What did he want? Did he hurt you again?”
Lillian almost broke, but she forced herself to hold it together.
She rubbed her belly, her voice quivering. “No, he just came to check on me. He’s been better lately. Thank you, Laila.”
Laila didn’t believe a word. Her gaze drilled into Lillian, brow furrowed with concern.
Lillian feared Laila would keep pressing and eventually uncover the truth. She spotted Bex and Rockie behind Laila and hurried to change the subject. “Laila, who are they?”
Laila sighed, letting it go for now. “They’re upperclassmen from Moonlight Academy. Both are Alpha wolves. Both know a bit about herbal medicine. They’re here to look after you–and to help you handle anyone you can’t stand up to.”
Lillian’s tears returned, falling in a fresh, unstoppable wave. “Thank you, Laila.”
Laila’s tone snapped, sharp and unyielding, “Enough crying, Lillian. Crying every day is bad for the pup. You’re an Alpha wolf, and your father is His Majesty’s uncle. Shawn marrying you is the best thing that ever happened to him. You should never accept this. I wish you could be more like Jenna. She’s impossible, but she would never let anyone walk all over her. But you–you’ve only suffered since the day you married him.”
Laila paused, then shook her head, realizing it was unfair to compare Lillian to someone as cold as Jenna. “You need to toughen

up, Lillian. As long as you refuse to bow your head, nobody can really trample you. Stop being so weak.”

Lillian’s voice broke with pain. “I just can’t stand how Shawn treats me. How can he do this to me? He promised he’d love me forever before we became mates.”
Laila flicked her forehead, her voice firm. “Pretend he’s dead. For yourself, for your pup, wipe away those tears. If you cry again, I won’t come visit you anymore.”
Lillian wiped her face and nodded. “Okay. I understand.”
Laila could see she understood, but she also knew Lillian would never have the strength to do it alone. That was why she’d sent people to help.
After making certain Lillian had calmed down, Laila left the room.
Shawm had been lurking nearby, watching everything, only relaxing once Laila left without incident.
He wanted to go back and talk to Lillian, but Bex and Rockie blocked his way.
He snapped, “Move. This is my house. Who do you think you are?”
Bex and Rockie stood their ground, unflinching. “Laila said to keep you away from Lillian.”
The instant Shawn realized these two only answered to Laila, his anger surged, but he dared not challenge them.
He knew he was no match for Laila.
Besides, Laila was recognized as Luna by Prince Vance, and Prince Vance was his superior.
There was nothing he could do but swallow his pride and storm away.
Shawn stalked down the hall to Tiffany’s room. As soon as he reached her door, he saw Tiffany cradling a black velvet box in her palm, taking something out and popping it into her mouth.
A sweet, intoxicating scent filled the air, growing stronger with each breath.
He couldn’t stop himself from moving closer, his voice tight. “What are you eating?”
The sound startled Tiffany. The black velvet box slipped from her fingers and rolled to Shawn’s feet.
He bent down to pick it up, but Tiffany was quicker, snatching the box away.
She slipped her arms around his neck, her lips brushing his ear. “Did you miss me, Shawn?”
Her voice oozed seduction, her touch melting every last bit of his self–control.
He pulled her closer, his hand trailing along her arm. “Of course I did. Did you miss me?”
She smirked. “Guess.”
He grinned, unable to hold back. “I can’t.”
