Victoria stormed into the den, her anger still burning after her clash with Laila. As she entered, she saw the housekeeper kicking an omega he–wolf across the floor.
She demanded an explanation and learned he was the one who had dumped manure at their gate. Without a second thought, she ordered someone to cut off his hand and throw him out onto the street.
His screams echoed through the halls as he spat curses at Ironclaw Pack, calling Holt useless and the Luna worthless. He shouted that the whole pack had betrayed Margaret from Blackrock Pack. Victoria, seething, marched straight to Maris’s quarters.
Maris reclined on a deck chair in the courtyard, her face veiled by a thin scarf.
Sunlight poured over her, but her body looked battered, every limb aching after surviving another full moon.
Victoria burst in, her voice sharp. Maris responded with icy disdain, “Get out.”
Victoria’s voice trembled with rage. “Why don’t you just destroy everyone who insults you? Every day someone dumps garbage at our door. The whole Ironclaw Pack is a joke now–a disgrace, and it’s all your fault.”
Maris glared, her stare merciless. “Don’t pretend you had nothing to do with this. If you hadn’t come to provoke me that day, I wouldn’t have been so furious.”
Victoria’s voice rose. “You started all of this. Holt has no money, but you do. When I asked for help, you refused. Why am I the only one funding Ironclaw Pack? You’re Luna too, so pay your share.”
Her hands shook as she shouted, “You won’t spend your own money, fine. But why do you expect us to support you, feed you, let you live in comfort? I already pay for Holt and his mother. Why do I have to pay for you, too?”
Maris sneered. “Because you’re a fool. If you cut off my food and drink, I’ll tear this place apart. You’ll never know a moment’s peace.”
Victoria’s face flushed bright red. “Did you know Laila showed up at the gate today, just to watch us get humiliated?”
Maris’s eyes narrowed, her posture rigid.
For a moment her fury nearly erupted, but she stifled it behind a mask of indifference. “So what? If she wants to watch, let her. That’s her business.”
Victoria’s voice faltered. “Maris, I’m begging you. Can’t you go back to Blackrock Pack and apologize? You’re ruining Holt’s future.”
Maris laughed, her tone sharp as glass. “Holt’s future? I don’t care about it. If you care, you fix it. If you want to apologize, go do it yourself. If you want to pay, then pay.”
Victoria trembled with fury. She had just bragged to Laila about spending her own money on Ironclaw Pack, but inside, she resented every dollar.
“You’re a parasite, Maris! How did Holt ever fall for you? You must’ve seduced him on the battlefield. You and Laila are the same- absolutely shameless.”

Maris gave a low, humorless laugh. “That must disappoint you. Holt chased after me on the battlefield, not the other way around. And don’t compare me to Laila. She’s nothing. I’ll defeat her sooner or later.”
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears. “Keep dreaming. You’re just a Beta. How could you ever beat an Alpha like her?”
She spun around, refusing to argue another second.
Inside Maris‘ mind, a voice coiled and whispered, slick and persuasive. Trust me. Work with me. I’ll give you the strength to crush
Laila.
Maris stayed silent, and the voice pressed on. Why not? You’ve felt my power before. With my help, even Holt couldn’t catch you. Don’t you want to make him and Laila bow before you?
Maris’s fists tightened, her eyes flickering with turmoil.
Their quarrel reverberated through the den, and a servant quickly went to report to Elara.
Elara exhaled a long, weary sigh.
She had always been satisfied with Victoria.
Victoria couldn’t get Rowan to visit, but she willingly spent her own money buying Rowan’s Snowpetal Pills for the family.
It was just a pity Maris still lived here, sowing chaos at every turn.
Holt was a fool for not throwing her out.
If Victoria were the only Luna, maybe the house would finally have some peace.
Of course, when it came to caring for people, Victoria couldn’t measure up to Laila.
Laila used to sleep in Elara’s room during her illnesses, always waking in the night to check on her.
Victoria never did that. She clung to Holt every night, terrified that Maris would lure him away.
Elara despised Laila, but she missed her too.
