Chapter 345 Left With Memories
Third–person POV:
“I married him when I was 18. It has beennine years now. Over the years, we spent more time apart than together, so we never had a pup of our own. But now I’ve adopted a child. His eyes and brows even look a little like his. I believe if he knew, he would love this child too. I don’t have many wishes left in this life. First, I hope the child grows up to be an honest, upright person like him. Second, I hope that one day, I can take him to the place where Jaxson died, and let him pay respects to his father.”
As she spoke, she looked at Laila. Tears shone in her eyes, but her gaze was firm. “General Conlay, if that day ever comes, please send someone to show us the way and lead my son and me to the place where he’s buried.”
Laila said softly, “All right. When your child is older, I’ll send someone to take you there. But once you reach Vagen, you can ask the locals, too. The people there set up a memorial for them. They remember them, and they still honor them.”
Sarasmiled, but tears rolled down her face. “That’s good. Really good. Then I can rest easy. I really can.”
Seeing her cry, Laila did not know how to comfort her. “Don’t cry. It would hurt him to see you like this.”
“Yes. It really would. He once told me that seeing me cry made his heart ache.” Sara wiped away her tears, and a heartbreaking smile appeared on her face. “Memories are strange. They cut so deep. Every word he ever said to me, I think about them over and over when I can’t sleep at night. That’s enough. The memories he left me are enough to keep me company for the rest of my life.”
Laila and Morgana looked at each other. At the same time, a deep ache rose in both their hearts.
Sara composed herself. “I’m sorry. I lost control for a moment. I must have embarrassed myself in front of both of you.”
“It feels better to say it out loud, doesn’t it?” Morgana said, her voice softer than usual.
“Yes. Much better” Sara’s eyes and nose were red. After crying, it was as if all the feelings trapped inside her had finally found an outlet. She felt much calmer.

The three of them did not linger there for much longer. Laila took Sara straight to Rowan for treatment.
While Sara was being treated, Laila and Morgana waited outside.
Morgana looked at Laila, then suddenly reached out and hugged her. The woman inside had lost her mate, and she was already in so much pain.
But Laila had lost even more.
Morgana had heard that Laila’s father and brothers had died in the battle at Vagen.
Later, her mother and her pack had died horribly, too.

Laila must have been in so much pain then.
Morgana did not dare think about it. She suddenly felt sorry for Laila.

Laila was caught off guard by the sudden hug. “What are you doing? Why are you hugging me all of a sudden?”
Morgana said in a low voice, “I just feel like your life hasn’t been easy.”
Those words brought tears to Laila’s eyes as well.
She sniffed. “It’s fine. It’s all in the past.”
