Chapter 353 He Loved the Wrong Woman

Chapter 353 He Loved the Wrong Woman

Thirdperson POV:

Laila almost laughed in sheer frustration.

She knew exactly why Maris had killed them.

You really think they had to be Solantian wolves?she said coldly. Not necessarily

With that, Laila walked back over and yanked the masks off every one of the men in black. Not a single one of those faces carried any of the features of a Solantian wolf.

The moment Maris saw, her pupils shrank to pinpoints.

The voice inside her head confirmed it lazily. Clearly, they’re Rydar wolves.

Without even realizing it, Maris clenched her fists. They weren’t Solantian wolves after all? How could that be?

She had assumed they were Solantians who had come to hunt her down, which was why she had rushed to kill them, so they couldn’t spill the truth about the village massacre once the Justice Department interrogated them. But she had never imagined these men were actually wolves from her own kingdom of Rydar.

Who had sent them? Weren’t they afraid of being struck down by Stillmoon Sanctum?

Maris turned to Laila. Laila, what is it that you know?

Laila scoffed, not intending to tell Maris the truth in the slightest. I don’t know a thing. And now that you’ve killed them, there’s no way to question them either.

With that, she turned to leave. Bury the bodies.

Watching her walk away, Maris gritted her teeth and went after her. Laila absolutely knew something.

She had only taken two steps when Victoria cut her off.

Victoria raised her hand and slapped Maris across the face with everything she had. Why did you lock the door? If you hadn’t locked it, my maids wouldn’t be dead!

The slap snapped Maris’s head sharply to the side.

She clenched her teeth, but she didn’t strike back.

It was because you locked that door that those men killed them.

Victoria shouted at her. Those two maids had been with her for over a decade, and the bond between them ran deep.

Maris tet out a cold laugh. That’s a lie! The one who got them kilted was you. You were the one blocking the door, and the two of them stead in front of you to shield you. That’s how they died.

You’re lying!

Maris stared at Victoria, her expression dark Am I lying? Isn’t that exactly what happened? They killed your maids because the maids were trying to protect you, and you were the one standing right in front of the door. I locked it to keep you out, so those men weren’t even going to kill you. You didn’t run away. You just stood there pounding on the door instead. And you still have the nerve to tell me you didn’t get them killed?

Looking back, Victoria realized it really had gone down that way. She had truly been standing right at the door, and her two maids had been trembling with fear, but they had still shielded her with their own bodies.

Had they really died because of her?

The realization that she was the one who had killed them made Victoria collapse onto the ground. Her whole body went limp, and the tears wouldn’t stop falling.

Standing off to the side, after hearing all of this, Holt finally snapped out of the fantasy that Laila must still have feelings for him just because she had come running to save him.

He stared at Maris in shock, seeing her shamelessness laid bare with absolute clarity for the very first time.

She was clearly the one in the wrong. Those assassins had come for her, and if she hadn’t run here in the first place, Victoria and her maids would have been perfectly fine.

And now, here she was, telling Victoria that those two women had died by Victoria’s own hand.

Just minutes ago, she had used him to take a blade meant for her.

And only moments before that, she had been crying and telling him she loved him. So this was what her love looked like?

It was as if Holt’s heart had been plunged into ice water. He finally understood that he had loved the wrong

woman.

Maris was selfish, twofaced, and shameless.

And he had given up Laila for someone like this.

Laila, despite everything that had happened between them, had still come running here and saved his life. Shame and regret hit him all at once, until in the end, all that was left when he looked at Maris was pure rage.

But before he let that anger out, he had one question. So he asked, Maris, where did you learn those fighting techniques? Why have I never seen them from you before?

Maris obviously wasn’t about to admit that someone else had taught her.
