Chapter 355 A Pawn Named Holt
Third-person POV:
“What is it?” Holt’s heart tightened, though a flicker of hope sparked alongside it.
Was she about to ask him to dissolve his mate bonds with Maris and Victoria?
He stared at Laila with burning eyes, only to be set up for disappointment.
“I want you to make some appropriate contact with Bloodmoon Pack’s Alpha Damian.”
“Damian?” Holt was caught off guard. “Why? What’s going on with him
Laila didn’t bother going into detail. “You don’t need to know too much for now, and I don’t need you to go after him on your own. All you have to do is pretend to play along when he reaches out to you, and pull a little information out of him.”
Holt didn’t fully understand, but he still nodded. “Alright. Got it. That won’t be a problem.”
Laila gave a soft sound of acknowledgment, then added, “Don’t let anyone else find out about this.”
Holt nodded. He was about to say something more when he suddenly heard Viola’s voice.
“You jerk! Get away from Laila!”
The words were barely out of her mouth before Viola came leaping over and sent him flying with one swift kick.
Holt didn’t have time to dodge and went tumbling straight into the bushes. When he picked himself back up, there were leaves stuck all through his hair, leaving him looking more than a little disheveled.
But he wasn’t angry. He just looked at Viola and explained, “I wasn’t bullying Laila. I was just talking to her about something.”
Viola scoffed coldly. “Get lost!”
Holt’s brow knitted together. “Viola, don’t you think you’re being a little hard on me?”
Viola shot back, “Ha. After everything you’ve pulled, you expect me to give you the benefit of the doubt? Go to hell.”
Holt drew in a deep breath and told himself to keep his cool. Viola was Laila’s close friend, and he couldn’t afford to butt heads with her.
He had figured it all out now. He needed to smooth things over with Laila and then see if there was any chance of getting her to come back to him.
He knew Laila far better than Samuel did.

He had loved her for years, he was her fated mate, and they had been together physically. There was no way Laila could feel absolutely nothing for him.
So right now, he had to hold it together. He couldn’t lose his temper.
Holt forced a smile onto his face. “Alright. Ichange your mind about me. Goodbye, Ms. Stone.”
After that, he turned to look at Laila, his eyes lingering with reluctance. “Goodbye, Laila.”
Laila gave a small nod.
Holt didn’t press any further. He pulled his gaze away, turned around, and walked off. At the very least, he had finally figured out his own heart, and he had re-established some kind of contact with Laila.
Given enough time, Laila was bound to have a change of heart.
Watching him walk away, Viola was floored. “Laila, did he hit his head or something? I told him to go to hell, and he smiled at me? On top of that, he said he was going to change my mind about him?”

Laila couldn’t figure out what Holt was up to either, but she didn’t really care. As long as he got the job done for her, that was all that mattered.
She also wasn’t worried about Holt taking sides with Damian’s camp. She knew him well enough. He was a loyal warrior, and he wouldn’t betray King Vaughn.
It wasn’t until the two of them were back at the den that Viola finally brought up the Ironclaw Pack incident. Just now, out in the open, hadn’t been the place to ask.
“Did they catch those men? Did they get sent to the Justice Department?”
“No.” Laila let out a sigh. “Maris killed every last one of them.”
Viola was stunned. “Maris is that strong now? Those were three Alpha warriors and two Beta warriors.”
Laila clarified. “No. I took them down first, and then she killed them while none of us were paying
attention.”
Viola scoffed in disgust. “She was tying up loose ends!”
Laila nodded. “But she killed the wrong people. Those men weren’t Solantian wolves.”
“Then where were they from?”
