Samuel lowered himself slightly, signaling everyone to climb onto his back in human form.

Once they were all securely holding on, his wings snapped open with a violent beat. He shot into the night sky like a streak of deep blue lightning.

He was unbelievably fast.

The pursuers never even had time to surround them. They still assumed Samuel and the others were escaping on foot.

In a town they passed over, a little boy stumbled outside halfasleep to relieve himself. He groggily looked up and saw a gigantic winged wolf soaring across the sky above him. Its wings glowed with an eerie blue light beneath the moon.

His eyes widened so much that he forgot what he’d even come outside to do.

Samuel didn’t stop.

He needed to reach the hideout Luke had chosen ahead of time and regroup with Woodrow as quickly as possible.

The place Luke picked was Ovila’s military cemetery.

Victor wouldn’t think to search here anytime soon.

The cemetery backed against the mountains. If everyone had been uninjured, they wouldn’t even have needed to leave the city. Beyond several mountain ridges stretched the grasslands, and hidden within them was a path leading straight to Wolfjaw Mountain outside Simonne Town. Once they reached there, they’d truly be safe.

The second reason was even simpler. Without Victor’s direct orders, nobody would dare search the cemetery. Desecrating the dead was considered a grave crime in every kingdom.

The cemetery was enormous. Most soldiers who died in battle were buried here. At the entrance stood a massive monument, silent beneath the moonlight like a sleepless sentinel that would never close its eyes.

Farther inside were several small cabins where the gravekeepers lived.

The gravekeepers had already been subdued. They were currently tied up tightly, gagged, and locked inside one of the cabins.

Before the rescue operation, Samuel’s group had stored food and water here in advance.

They’d assumed Cottontail would definitely be tortured. Ovila had suffered a crushing defeat, and those people were bound to take their anger out on someone. His injuries wouldn’t be light. After rescuing him, there’d be no way he could immediately cross mountains and flee.

They just never expected that Cottontail wouldn’t be the only injured one. The supplies they prepared weren’t nearly enough for everyone.

By the time Samuel and the others arrived, Woodrow was already treating Willy’s injuries.

After Samuel landed, Terrence and the others climbed off his back.

As soon as Samuel shifted back into human form, his body swayed violently, and he nearly collapsed. His face was white as paper.

Greer immediately caught him and pulled a recovery potion from her waist, bringing it to his lips.

Samuel swallowed it, and only then did a trace of color finally return to his pale face.

Terrence and the others saw everything. None of them said a word, but it felt like something was wrenching painfully at their hearts.

From the prison to here was at least dozens of miles. Samuel must have pushed himself completely past his limits.

Just as they were about to say something, Samuel had already handed over medicine and bandages, his voice low but leaving no room for argument. Treat your wounds first.

The men accepted the selfhealing potions and drank them down.

Samuel tore open the back of Terrence’s shirt. A massive wound stretched from his shoulder blade all the way to his waist, deep enough to nearly expose bone.

Luckily, the bleeding had been stopped earlier. Otherwise, Terrence would’ve died long ago.

After tending the wound, Samuel finally lifted his head and looked at the group before him.

Aside from Terrence, he couldn’t recognize a single one of them.

And there was also Willy, who had been tortured so brutally that he still hadn’t regained consciousness. Samuel stared at the swollen, deformed face for a very long time, but still couldn’t tell who he was.

At that moment, Terrence slowly raised a hand while supporting himself upright. His voice
