Two days later, Rowan finally announced that William had made it through another critical stage.
He hadn’t had a high fever for three straight days. The low–grade fever was still there, but at least the worst danger had passed.
Before anyone could celebrate for long, Rowan poured cold water on their relief. “A low fever can still kill him.”
One sentence froze every smile in the room.
And Rowan wasn’t exaggerating.
Over the next few days, the fever kept coming and going. William stayed half–conscious most of the time and rarely woke up for real..
His wolf spirit still hadn’t recovered either. Rowan said the damage had been too severe. Healing would take a long time.
Finally, six days later, Laila and the others arrived.
The trip from the Silvermoon Pack to Aurilles normally took eleven days with an Omega traveling alongside them, so the fact they made it this quickly was already impressive.
Several storms hit along the way and slowed them down. On top of that, they were attacked by a small group of Rogues. There weren’t many of them, but they fought viciously.
Viola protected the group while fighting their way out. She took several heavy blows to the shoulder. The injury had torn the flesh open so badly that the underlying bone was visible. At the time, she only wrapped a few messy layers of bandages around it with help from Laila. She didn’t even have time to use clotting powder before gritting her teeth and continuing on.
An Alpha’s healing ability was strong, but the wound was too deep. Days of rain and soaked clothes made proper cleaning impossible.

Sara had suffered just as much during the journey.

Her stamina couldn’t keep up with that pace at all. Laila had already slowed down on purpose and adjusted her movements to soften some of the shock for her.

hurt so badly she could barely straighten up. Her arms had gone stiff as wood from clinging to Laila’s neck the whole way.
The only thing keeping her going was pure determination.
Once they arrived, Laila shifted back into human form first and stood upright.
Sara slid off her back. The moment her feet touched the ground, her knees buckled hard beneath her.
She dropped straight to the ground.

Her legs no longer felt like her own. She couldn’t even stand steady. Her whole body trembled uncontrollably.
Laila hurried over and helped her up.
“Hurry…” Sara’s voice shook. A fierce fire burned in her eyes. “Take me to him. Please.”
