When she fell silent, Eleanor sighed and gently tried to persuade her as well. “Victoria, you don’t need to pay the money yourself. I’ll take care of it. But you should at least make a gesture. After all, when the Woodses allowed you to return home back then, Lorena truly treated you like a.daughter.”
With both Eleanor and Jillian united on the issue, Victoria held out for a little while longer before finally agreeing. After all, she wasn’t the one paying.
Jillian didn’t ask her to personally deliver the repayment to the Woodses. Instead, she simply had Victoria write a letter to Lorena. And naturally, the signature at the bottom would read “Luna of the Ironclaw Pack.”
That title alone made the meaning clea death benefit was being returned.

After finishing the letter and handing it over, Victoria muttered unwillingly, “Honestly, what’s the point of making such a big deal out of this? It just makes it seem like there’s something wrong with me remarrying.”
Jillian replied, “No one said there was anything wrong with you remarrying. I’m doing this to cut off any

Victoria actually sneered in anger. “What other thoughts could I possibly have? Do you think I want to dissolve my mate bond with Holt and crawl back into Terrence’s arms? What kind of me for?”

And besides, back then, the marriage proposal came through Mr. Merona’s mate. Could I really refuse?”
Jillian calmly folded the letter, her expression unchanged. “Oh, please. She never forced you into this marriage. You were allowed time to get to know Holt before agreeing. That means it was never coercion. You could’ve refused.”
“Mom.” Victoria turned toward Eleanor, her face full of grievance. “Be fair. Wasn’t it difficult to refuse back then? I wasn’t that keen on this marriage at first.”
Eleanor sighed tiredly. “What’s the point of saying these things now?”
Victoria choked up and wiped at the corner of her eyes. “I just want fairness. Because of that incident in the past, Jillian keeps targeting me. Does she even still see me as family?”
“How is this not treating you like family?” Jillian replied. “We’re doing this for your own good. Once the death benefit is returned, you’ll no longer owe the Woodses anything. Then you can simply live your life

Victoria wanted to argue that she would indeed owe the Woodses nothing once the money was returned, but Terrence owed her. Yet she didn’t dare say it aloud. She was afraid Jillian would bring up that matter again.
