407 You Have Me Too
Third–person POV:
If only… he could break the mate bond with Maris.
But he had earned this marriage through military merit, and King Vaughn would never allow him to end the mate bond on his own.
Holt let out a heavy sigh.
His gaze swept across the crowd before finally landing on Laila.
That should have been his Luna. But now, she stood beside Prince Vance instead.
She was so dazzling that it made his chest tighten painfully.
Yet Laila never noticed Holt at all. Her attention was on the reunions happening all around her.
Patrick pulled his son into a tight embrace. Tears filled his eyes, yet he was smiling brightly.
“I will always be proud of you, my son,” he said.
The other families had come to welcome their loved ones home as well. Every embrace was enough to bring tears to one’s eyes.
The Reynolds held onto Flynn tightly. Madam Woods embraced Terrence…
Laila watched them, and tears slowly spilled from her own eyes, too.
She knew this kind of happiness could never belong to her. In this lifetime, she would never see her father and brothers again.
The cruelest thing about this world was that the people who should have been closest to you, your flesh and blood, the ones tied to you more deeply than anyone else, would disappear from your life one after another until they were gone forever.
After returning to Silvermoon Pack, Laila went back to her room alone. She had been happy for everyone else, but afterward came her own sadness and loneliness.
She did not want to pass those feelings on to anyone. So she locked herself inside her room and quietly stared at the necklace her mother had left behind. Five gemstones were embedded in it, each one sealing a faint image of one of her brothers inside.
She looked at them over and over again while tears continued to fall.
Samuel desperately wanted to stay beside her. But he thought Laila needed time alone to sort through her
emotions.
So he sat quietly on the stone steps outside her door, forbidding anyone from disturbing her

Only after Laila had calmed herself, changed clothes, and stepped out of the room did he stand up and walk over to hold her hand. The tears in her eyes were gone now, though traces of crying remained.
Heart aching, Samuel gently wiped the corner of her eye with his finger. “From now on, you have me, too. I’m your family as well.”
“Mm.” Laila smiled at him. After crying, her smile carried a fragile, broken feeling that only made Samuel’s heart ache more.
“Laila, you have me too!”
Morgana had appeared at some point, her eyes red as well.
She ran over and threw herself into Laila’s arms. “I’m your family too. I’ll protect you forever.”
Laila froze for a moment. Then suddenly, her heart softened completely. Their words struck directly at the softest part of her heart, leaving her defenseless. Her chest swelled painfully, her nose turned sour, and her eyes stung once more.
She had never expected someone younger than her, like Morgana, to say something like that.
Especially when Morgana had never seemed to like her very much before.
Laila suddenly wanted to cry again.
Watching the scene, Samuel instantly regretted not hugging Laila first. Instead, Morgana had stolen the chance from him.
Nearby, Gracie secretly wiped away tears, her heart filled with relief. Good. This is wonderful. The princess has finally learned how to care for others.
At the Woodses‘ estate.
The moment Terrence stepped through the doors, Madam Woods burst into tears again. She held onto her son and cried over and over, nearly fainting once more.
Everyone around them cried as they tried to comfort her. It took a long time before they finally managed to help Madam Woods sit down so the family could properly talk.
There were not many male members left in the Woodses now. Several of Terrence’s cousins had died on the battlefield.
His return alone was already an enormous comfort to the entire family.
After greeting the elders one by one and briefly explaining what had happened over the years, everyone slowly dispersed.
Madam Woods continued staring at Terrence, unable to shake the feeling that this was all unreal But no matter how many times she blinked, the person before her never disappeared.
