Chapter 416 Something’s Off

Chapter 416 Something’s Off

Third-person POV:

10Tire Coms

Victoria had no idea Jillian had gone to the Woodses’ estate. She assumed her mother had already convinced her sister to help.

She had every reason to believe that. As the youngest daughter, she’d always been the most doted on, and the most spoiled.

Whatever she wanted, they always gave in.

After hearing from the wolf healer that her mother was recovering, Victoria headed back to Ironclaw Pack.

She didn’t even try to see Jillian. That was the sister she feared most. The last thing she wanted was another lecture.

On the way back, she stopped midway, planning to buy another cottontail at the market. When Terrence saw she was raising several of them, he would believe she had never stopped loving him.

After carefully picking one out, she turned to leave, only to catch sight of Laila.

Her mood instantly soured. The market was so small that she couldn’t even avoid people she didn’t want to see.

She turned her head away, but in the corner of her eye, she caught a familiar figure.

In an instant, her blood surged to her head, her mind ringing. The memories she had tried so hard to bury clawed their way back up, like something rotten forcing its way through the dirt.

Her whole body started to tremble.

Kevin. It’s actually him.

Why is Laila with him?

Panic flared in her chest, but she forced herself to stay calm. No. He’d never tell anyone. If he did, he’d go down with me.

Laila felt the heat of someone’s stare and turned her head, meeting Victoria’s eyes.

The moment Victoria realized it, she quickly looked away.

Laila paid her no mind. She turned back and said to the man beside her, “Mr. Ritchie, let’s go.

Kevin didn’t move. His eyes were locked on Victoria, his face ashen, as if he’d just been pulled off a battlefield.

Laila frowned slightly and called again, “Mr. Ritchie?”

Kevin snapped out of it, his voice unsteady. “Right… let’s go. To the clinic.”

He didn’t look at Victoria again, but his steps were off, almost like he was fleeing.

Laila followed a step behind, then suddenly turned back, casting a long look at Victoria. Victoria was still staring in their direction, her face pale as snow.

Laila narrowed her eyes.

Something’s off.

Kevin was Terrence’s student, just turned 18 this year. He used to come to the Woodses’ estate often for training. Even after Terrence was declared dead, he stayed around the training grounds for a while before slowly stopping.

So he and Victoria should know each other.

But the way they reacted just now… it was like they’d run into Rogues.

Is there bad blood between them?

Kevin led Laila through the market, heading all the way to the far end. Rowan’s clinic was tucked away there. She liked her peace and quiet, but her reputation still drew wolves in from everywhere.

Kevin was Rowan’s apprentice. Since Lillian was close to giving birth, Laila had come today to pick up some herbs.

Once they arrived, Kevin started slicing medicinal roots.

“Cut a little more,” Laila said. “And check if there’s anything that helps build strength, something for the mother. Oh, and prepare what we’ll need for delivery too.”

Kevin kept his head down. “Robin will bring the delivery potion over, and I’ll bring it over then. I’ll prep these roots first. I’ll also set aside some herbs to restore energy. She’ll need them during labor.”

His voice sounded thin, like he’d just been shaken badly.
