That single sentence made Evelyn fall silent, even as she had just started to sob at how much the baby’s face resembled Shawn.

Rowan was right. Lillian still wasn’t out of danger.

The signs of severe bleeding were already there.

They had used too many blood-activating medicines earlier. Now they had to switch to hemostatic drugs and apply pressure to stop the bleeding.

In other words, the child was delivered, but the mother’s life was still hanging by a thread.

Laila sat quietly at the head of the bed, gripping Lillian’s hand tightly. Lillian had already lost

consciousness.

Under Rowan’s direction, Robin followed every instruction, administering medicine and applying pressure exactly where needed to control the bleeding.

Viola stood frozen.

Before coming, she had said she was afraid to witness childbirth. But once she arrived, the tension in the room left no space for fear. All she wanted was for Lillian to survive.

Yet watching her struggle again and again at the edge of death, still not out of danger, felt like something was crushing her chest.

Why did it have to be like this?

If it were for someone who truly deserved it, maybe it would be different. But for a man who clearly didn’t, to be pushed to the brink of death like this… it wasn’t worth it.

Not at all.

Viola had once considered never getting married. Now that resolve hardened.

She had seen too many women marry, have children, and give their entire lives away.

Her body belonged to her. Her life belonged to her.

She would never hand everything over to a man she didn’t even love.

No one was worth that kind of sacrifice.

And if she ever did love someone, that person would have to love her just as much. He would never allow her to go through something like this.

If he did, then he didn’t love her enough. And she would never settle for that.

But she also knew not everyone had her choices.

She had the freedom to decide because she had somewhere to fall back on. She was an Alpha. Moonlight Academy would always be her home.

Too many women didn’t have that.

She remembered what Laila had once mentioned building a women’s academy to protect she- wolves who wanted to study and strive for something more, including those weaker Omegas.

Back then, she had thought it unnecessary. She believed it was all a matter of personal choice.

But now, seeing Lillian like this, she understood. Some things had to be taught. Someone had to speak up.

She made up her mind. She would support Laila fully, financially and with manpower, to make that academy happen.

But right now, Lillian mattered most. She had to live.

Evelyn carried the stillborn child outside and walked straight to Shawn. After being tied up so long, his circulation had been cut off. His face had turned a deep purplish red.

“This is your son. You killed him.”

She held the baby up for him to see. Tears still clung to her face. At first, her voice was steady, but the next moment, grief and fury broke through. “What will it take for you to stop? What will it take for you to pull yourself together? Look at him. You killed your own son. You’ve torn this entire family apart. What gave you the right? Because Lillian loved you, you thought you could treat her however you wanted?”

She took a shaky breath, her voice trembling.

“You animal. She’s still fighting for her life. Do you even understand what you’ve done?”

Shawn kept his head turned away, refusing to look at the child. He had heard everything inside -the panic, the screams. He couldn’t even make sense of what he was feeling. All he knew was that he didn’t want to see it. This wasn’t his fault. He hadn’t killed him.

“Take it away! Take it away!” he muttered, foam at the corners of his mouth. “I don’t want to see… I don’t want to see…”

But he saw it anyway.

Just one glance.

The baby lay there, silent in the blanket. A newborn that should have cried and moved, now completely still.

He was beautiful. So small. So perfect.

His son.

Dead.

A broken sound escaped Shawn’s throat before he collapsed into a hysterical wail. “Take it away! Take it away! I don’t want to see! Mom, I know I was wrong! Let me down! I want to see her! I really know I was wrong!”

Tears streamed endlessly down Evelyn’s face.
