At 3 a.m., Samuel woke up.

He was still leaning against the study wall, the blanket draped over him, his neck stiff and sore. He looked down. The blanket was still neatly covering him, the corners tucked in carefully.
Griffir yawned inside his mind and spoke lazily. “You’re up? She really left you out here all night?”
“I’m an Alpha,” Samuel said, rubbing his neck, a trace of pride in his voice. “don’t catch colds.”
He paused. “But she still covered me.”
Griffin went silent for two seconds. “You’re serious?”
Samuel ignored him.
He stood, folded the blanket neatly over his arm, asked a guard where Laila’s courtyard was, and strode off.
When he reached the gate, he didn’t go in.
He shook the blanket out again, sat down on the stone steps by the entrance, leaned against the wall, and closed his eyes.
Griffin exploded in his head. “You’re not going inside? She’s your fiancée. Sleeping together is normal.”
“Shut up,” Samuel said without opening his eyes. “We haven’t held the mate ceremony yet. Her reputation matters.”
Griffin made a strangled sound. “Since when do you care about that? You’re Samuel. You care about gossip?”
Samuel didn’t answer.
He cared.
Not about idle talk. About Laila.
She was the Alpha of Silvermoon Pack. She had to command respect. He wouldn’t give anyone a reason tqWhisper behind her back, to say her fiancé didn’t respect her, that she was sharing a bed before they were properly bonded
On the battlefield, he could be reckless. With her, he would take it slow.
Griffin muttered a few more complaints and then gave up.
Before long, Saml drifted back to sleep against the wall
In the morning, when Laila woke, Pearl was already stepping in with a basin of water
“Ms. Conlay, you’re awake” Pearl wrung out a towel as she spoke “His Highness is at the training grounds
Laila blinked. “He didn’t go home last night?”

Pearl pressed her lips together, eyes sparkling with mischief. “No. He slept right outside our courtyard gate. I nearly jumped out of my skin this morning. Such a tall man curled up on the steps, the blanket almost sliding off.”
She handed over the towel. “Ms. Conlay, he must really love you.”
Laila took the towel and said nothing.
That wasn’t love. He just… couldn’t let someone else go.
When Laila didn’t respond, Pearl added softly, “Ms. Conlay, think about your brothers. When your eldest brother was courting his wife, clidn’t he wait out in the rain all night before she agreed to see him? And your second brother climbed that tall tree just to pick flowers for his wife.”
Laila pressed the warm towel to her face, hiding her expression.
She remembered Marcus standing in the rain, soaked through. Remembered Elias tumbling out of that tree with flowers clutched in his hands. Remembered her sisters–in–law scolding them while their eyes shone.
‘t’s not the same.
She lowered the towel and pushed the thought away.
‘Ms. Conlay! Ms. Conlay!”
A servant’s voice rang out from outside, breathless and excited.
‘What is it?” Pearl leaned out to ask.
‘His Highness is at the training grounds! He’s sparring! You have to see it!”
Laila frowned. “What do you mean ‘have to see it’-”
She didn’t finish. Footsteps were already pounding past the courtyard. The she–wolves of Silvermoon Pack were hurrying toward the training grounds as if drawn by a magnet.
Pearl grabbed Laila’s sleeve. “Ms. Conlay, let’s go.”
I’m not going”
“Come on, come on.”
Pearl tugged her along. Laila kept saying she wasn’t going, but she didn’t pull back
By the time they reached the training grounds, a crowd had already formed
Laila pushed through and saw Samuel at once
