Zachary also saw Yvaine's post. He scowled.
He reached for his phone to call her, but forced himself to stop. He refused to believe she had actually gone out and gotten married.
Yvaine wasn't an impulsive teenager. Even if she seriously wanted to end things with him and marry someone else, she would calculate every angle first. She wasn't the type to pull a melodramatic stunt from a soap opera and impulsively marry a stranger just to spite him.
Yvaine was notoriously rational and mature.
Sometimes, she was far too mature... and he absolutely hated that about her.
But then Zachary remembered the Docksy license plates from that morning. A nasty knot of unease tightened in his stomach.
His own phone began to blow up with messages. Everyone was asking why he got married so suddenly and showering him with congratulations.
Then, Yvaine dropped her comment clarifying it wasn't him and that they had broken up. After that, the barrage of people fishing for gossip tripled.
Infuriated, Zachary muted his phone and slumped into his desk chair, entirely incapable of focusing on work.

When Yvaine stepped out of her office building at the end of the day, she was preparing to hail a cab, only to see Silas's car parked right out front. She walked over.
Silas saw her and pushed the passenger door open.
"Why are you here?" Yvaine asked.
Silas looked at her. "...I came to pick my wife up from work. Let's go."
"...Oh," Yvaine murmured. She climbed into the passenger seat.
She felt an indescribable flutter in her chest. She glanced over at Silas, feeling distinctly out of her depth. It wasn't until she looked out the window that she realized they were driving the wrong way. "Where are we going?"
"Dinner," Silas replied.
Yvaine didn't press further.
They arrived at an incredibly upscale restaurant. The atmosphere was immaculate—champagne, flickering candlelight, fresh flowers, a live pianist, and the rich scent of gourmet food filling the air.
Wrapped in this intensely romantic ambiance, Silas lifted his champagne glass and held it toward her. "Happy wedding day, Mrs. Sheridan."
