Chapter 127
Amelia stared at Sofia in shock, her mind still reeling from her confession. Slowly, her gaze drifted back to Aiden. His eyes found hers across the room. For a fleeting second, the world stilled…just the two of them, broken yet tethered by something unshakable. She dropped her eyes quickly, unable to bear the storm behind his.
But something gnawed at her. Why was Sofia’s gaze flicking to the door, again and again, as if waiting for a savior?
“I know everyone hates me already, and that I’m going to die…” Sofia’s voice wavered. She drew in a shaky breath, shoulders sagging as if she had finally accepted her fate. Tears slid down her cheeks. For the first time, fear cracked through her mask of arrogance.
The room held its breath. Amelia almost believed her.
Then-
BANG!
A gunshot ripped through the silence, followed by a heavy crash outside. Every council member flinched, heads snapping toward the door.
BANG! Another shot. Then a savage pounding against the entrance that made the wooden frame tremble.
One of the Blood Watch moved cautiously toward it. His hand barely touched the latch before a deafening gunshot exploded through the air. His body jerked violently, blood spurting from his chest and mouth before he collapsed lifeless to the floor.
The chamber erupted into chaos.
Aiden growled, a sound so guttural it made the walls seem to tremble. His claws extended, fangs bared, eyes burning crimson with fury. James leapt to his feet, already moving into a defensive stance. Cassia stiffened, her entire body on alert.
And Sofia… smiled.
That vile, victorious smirk. Amelia’s stomach sank as realization struck. Sofia knew. She had been waiting for this.
The door burst open. Fifteen men stormed in, guns blazing, silver bullets whistling through the air. The council chamber became a storm of violence. Wolves lunged at men with inhuman speed, claws raking flesh, blood spraying against the stone walls. The sharp crack of gunfire collided with the wet sound of tearing throats and agonized screams.
Amelia’s eyes locked on a shadow slipping past the carnage….Dante. He moved straight for Sofia.
“No,” Amelia hissed. She darted forward, planting herself between Sofia and her would-be rescuer.
“You’d better move, Amelia,” Sofia warned, her voice laced with venom. “Do not do what I think you’re about to…”
“Really?” Amelia cut her off, her voice trembling with fury. “You killed my daughter. Do you think I’ll ever let you escape justice? If I have to die here, then so be it. But you will not leave his room alive.”
Her words rang like iron. Dante’s eyes narrowed.
“Get out of my way,” he snapped.
“No.”
“I won’t hesitate,” Dante growled, his voice edged with menace love, or I’ll…”
“Try me,” Amelia spat, fire in her eyes.
He lunged, but she caught his wrist and shoved him back with a strength that startled him. He swung at her, but she ducked low and slashed at his face with her claws, tearing across his cheek. Blood splattered.
Dante roared, his own wolf flaring as his eyes ignited an icy blue. He struck back hard, his fist colliding with her ribs. Pain rattled through her, but she didn’t falter because it healed instantly. She clawed across his chest, ripping fabric and flesh. With a savage kick, she sent him crashing backward.
“What the hell are you?” Dante gasped, stunned. The last time had faced her, she’d been weak, trembling prey. Now she radiated the raw power of an Alpha.
The first bullet tore into Aiden’s chest. His body jerked, but he kept coming.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
More bullets ripped through him, silver burning like fire in his ins. He staggered, but his wolf fought, forcing his body forward, claws stretched for Dante’s throat.
“Stay down!” James roared, but Aiden didn’t stop.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Seven. Eight. Nine. Each shot louder than the last, each one tearg into flesh and bone. The smell of wolfsbane and blood thickened the air.
Finally, the tenth shot thundered.
Aiden’s body collapsed mid-stride. He crashed to the ground with a sickening thud, blood pooling beneath him, bubbling from his mouth as he struggled for breath. His wolf inside him howled, thrashing against the cage of his dying body, unwilling to surrender.
“Aiden!” Amelia’s scream ripped through the chamber. She dropped to her knees beside him, hands shaking as she pressed against his wounds, blood soaking her palms.
His glowing eyes flickered, red fading to their natural shade as he choked, his breaths wet and ragged. His body convulsed. fighting to rise again, but the poison burned through him.
“Aiden, stay with me! Please…” Her voice broke as tears streamed down her face.
All around them, chaos raged, but for Amelia, the world shrank to the broken man on the ground. The Alpha. The father of her son. Her mate.
And the sound of his wolf’s dying howl still echoing in her soul.
