Chapter 129
The moment Cassia walked out of the ward, she saw James pacing restlessly outside the door, his boots echoing against the tiled floor. His face was tight with worry, his eyes snapping to he the second she stepped out.
“Amelia, how’s he?” James rushed forward, his voice cracking slightly under the weight of tension.
“He’s alive. Stable. The silver bullets have been removed. He’ll be transferred to another ward…you can see him there,” she answered quickly, her voice low, steady but heavy with exhaustion. She was about to turn away when James’ voice pulled her back.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“I’m going to get Arthur from school.” Her tone wavered as her eyes flickered with worry. “I don’t know if they’ll go after him too.”
James didn’t hesitate. He nodded firmly. “I’ll come with you.”
She gave a short nod, grateful for his presence, and together they walked out of the hospital. Cassia slid into the driver’s seat of her car while James took the passenger side.
Her hands tightened around the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, tears pricking her eyes. Just when she thought things were finally beginning to feel normal… when she thought her daughter might finally get justice, it was all shattered again. The killer had escaped, and she couldn’t even chase them down.
Her mind screamed with fury. I will find them. I will make them regret ever touching what’s mine. Her grip on the wheel shook with the force of her rage.
“Hey, Amelia…” James’ voice softened, pulling her back. He placed a hand lightly on her arm.
“I promise, we’ll find them. They won’t get past the borders….the patrol is on high alert. They’re still in the pack, and they will be caught,” he reassured.
Cassia gave a curt nod, wiped her tears quickly, and started the engine. The car roared to life, speeding off into the distance.
Meanwhile, Dante and Sofia slipped into a secluded house. Sofias sharp eyes scanned the room while Dante moved briskly to the window, tugging the curtains down until the space was cloaked in secrecy.
“This is my hiding place,” Dante muttered, his voice low but firm “We’ll lie low here for now. No one will find us.”
He turned back, only to feel the sharp sting of Sofia’s palm striking his face, once, then again. His jaw tightened as he stared at her in shock.
“I saved your life, and this is how you repay me?” he demanded through clenched teeth.
“You shot Aiden!” she screamed, her voice breaking. “I counted the bullets, Dante….ten fucking times! You killed him!” Her hands shoved against his chest, forcing him back a step.
“He’ll survive, Sofia. He’s an Alpha. Besides…” Dante’s voice dropped, raw with frustration. “I wasn’t aiming at him…I was aiming for Amelia. He threw himself in front of her.”
“You should have shot Amelia, not Aiden!” Sofia spat, tears pooling in her eyes.
Her declaration lit a fire in him. His chest heaved as he fought for composure, but the dam broke.
“I can never love a man like you, Dante! You’re a killer. A murderer!”
The word murderer echoed in his skull, snapping something inside him. His eyes glowed an eerie blue as his hand slid to the gun tucked at his back.
“I’m warning you, Sofia,” he growled, voice shaking.
But she only screamed louder, venom dripping from her words.
“I can never love a monster like you!”
His roar ripped through the room as he raised the gun. Bullets cacked through the air, one after another, as he fired at her in blind fury. Her scream was cut short, her body jerking as each shot tore into her until silence fell. Blood soaked her dress. her lifeless eyes frozen wide in shock.
The gun clicked empty. Silence engulfed the room.
Dante’s breath came in ragged gasps as the glow faded from his eyes. His gaze fell to Sofia’s body sprawled lifeless on the couch, crimson pooling around her.
“S-Sofia…” His voice broke, trembling. The gun slipped from his hand, clattering against the floor. Realization crashed down on him like a tidal wave.
