Chapter 165
“Why would you think such, Arthur? We only had a little argument, and we’ll sort it out… and yes, I love him.”
“But not as much as you love Alpha Aiden…” Arthur muttered, h small voice slicing through the air. Cassia froze, her brows shooting upward.
“Oh my God, Arthur! Where are you getting these thoughts from?” she asked, trying to laugh it off, but her voice cracked slightly.
Arthur only shrugged, fiddling with the hem of his shirt. Cassia ran a trembling hand through her hair and drew in a long breath.
Why would her son think that? Was he just imagining things… or was there truth hidden in his innocent words?
No. She shook her head quickly. There was no way she loved Aiden more than Damien. She chose Damien…she was marrying him. That had to mean she loved him more. Right?
“You know what?” she said quickly, forcing a smile. “You’re coming with me to the hospital today. It’s the weekend, and you’ll be with me all day.”
Arthur frowned as she lifted his shirt over his head.
“But why? I wanted to go out with Uncle Damien today,” he muttered, his little lips pushing into a pout.
Cassia paused mid-motion, her eyes snapping to his. “To where?
“To the pack,” he said simply, meeting her gaze with his big brown eyes.
Cassia sighed, trying to sound calm. “We’ll go tomorrow…”
But she froze as soon as the words left her mouth. Tomorrow. She wouldn’t be free. Tomorrow she was supposed to go with Aiden, James, and Tracy to the house where Tracy had been held captive for months. There was no time. She had to find her family.
“I don’t think tomorrow will be possible, honey. Mommy’s going to be busy,” she said softly, helping him out of his pajamas. “But why don’t we go today, after I close from work? Just the two of us.”
Arthur’s lips pressed into a thin line. He sighed, his tiny shoulders slumping before he nodded.
After bathing him, Cassia dressed him neatly and asked him to whit while she went to change. She walked into her room. shutting the door behind her, and leaned against it for a momen, exhaling.
Tonight was the full moon. Tomorrow she’d get the dawnfire blossom. Then, when she found her family, the cure would finally be complete. Her mother would be well again. The thought brought a fleeting smile to her lips.
She stripped and stepped under the shower, tilting her face up as the warm water poured over her. For a moment, it washed away everything….the fight, the guilt, the confusion. But then memories came flooding back the storm, the darkness, the way Aiden had pulled her close when lightning struck near the car.
The peace she felt in his arms. The steady rhythm of his heart beneath her car.
She had wanted to push him away… but she didn’t.
She couldn’t.
Her breath hitched as she pressed her palms to the wet tiles. Why can’t I forget that moment?
–
Then her mind drifted back to Damien… the anger in his eyes, the way his voice had broken when he accused her. The picture. Someone had sent him those photos. But who?
The only person who could’ve done that was Aiden… but he won’t. He was with her the whole time.
So who else would try to come between them?
Or… was Damien lying?
No. He had no reason to.
She let out a long sigh and decided not to think about it anymore.
Cassia stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel tightly around her chest. Her skin glistened under the soft morning light as she walked into her room and pulled open her wardrobe. She slipped into a pair of fitted black trousers and a white long- sleeved blouse, buttoning it carefully. Her movements were calm almost mechanical the only thing betraying her inner chaos was the way her fingers trembled slightly.
–
Once dressed, she slung her bag over her shoulder and walked to Arthur’s room. He was sitting on the edge of his bed, humming softly to himself.
“Let’s go, sweetheart,” she said with a small smile.
They went downstairs together, but the living room was empty. The couch where Damien had slept earlier was neatly arranged. He was gone.
Cassia’s heart sank a little. She didn’t know where he’d gone, but he didn’t want to think about it. She just sighed quietly and led Arthur outside.
She’s mine and I won’t let anyone take her from me. Not again.
If it had to come to blood… so be it.
Even if that blood was Aiden’s.
He clenched his jaw until it hurt, the veins in his neck standing out.
Just then, his phone began to ring, snapping him out of his thoughts. He exhaled sharply, forcing himself to breathe before checking the screen.
James.
He picked up. “James,” he muttered, his voice still hoarse from anger.
“Hey, man,” James said cheerfully. “Sorry for calling so early. Hope I didn’t interrupt anything?”
Damien forced a chuckle. “No, no, it’s fine. I’m not doing anything important.”
“Good. There’s this venue downtown I found. It would be perfect for your wedding ceremony with Cassia. I thought maybe you’d want to check it out?”
Damien’s eyes flickered. “Now?”
“Yeah,” James said. “People are getting married left and right, man. You don’t want someone else to book it first. You should see it today if you can.”
Damien inhaled deeply, calming his breathing. “Alright. I’ll be on my way.”
“Great. I’ll text you the address,” James said before ending the call.
Almost immediately, Damien’s phone buzzed again – a message from James with the address attached.
He stared at the text for a moment, his reflection faint in the black screen. His eyes were wild, darker than usual. He pocketed the phone, grabbed his car keys, and walked out of the house.
But as he shut the door behind him, the thought that lingered in his mind wasn’t the wedding.
It was Aiden and how to get rid of him for good!
