Chapter 164
Cassia’s car came to a stop in front of her apartment. She exhale, gripping the steering wheel for a moment before stepping out. She walked towards the front door.
Damien’s car was parked out front. Her heart skipped. He’s here
She pushed open the door and froze. Damien sat slumped on the couch, asleep. His head leaned back against the cushion, his jaw tight even in rest, as if anger had followed him into his dreams.
“Damien,” she whispered, walking closer. Her fingers brushed his shoulder.
He jerked upright instantly, blinking away sleep.
“Did you spend the night on the couch?” she asked, voice soft bu edged with concern.
He rubbed his hands over his face and nodded, his voice hoarse. I was waiting for you.”
Cassia’s chest tightened. “Why didn’t you come home last night?
Her heart began to pound. “My car broke down because of the heavy storm,” she said, trying to keep her tone calm.
Damien’s eyes narrowed. His jaw flexed, veins visible under his skin as anger started to rise. “Your car broke down? And?”
“Nothing else,” she replied quietly.
He scoffed. “Another lie again, Cassia…”
The way he said her name made her flinch. His voice cracked, his knuckles whitening as he clenched his fists.
“Tell me the truth. Was it really your car that broke down-or were you with Aiden?” His voice deepened, trembling with fury.
Cassia blinked, startled. How did he know? She hadn’t told him. Her phone had died before she could.
“Wondering how I knew?” he muttered, reaching for his phone on the couch.
“Damien, my phone died. I was about to tell you when-”
He cut her off, showing her the screen. “Look. This is the Tracy you went to see, right?”
Her breath caught. He was holding a message from an unknown number and attached were pictures. Pictures of her and Aiden.
Cassia’s stomach dropped.
“Are you spying on me now?” she asked, her voice shaking.
“No,” he snapped. “But apparently someone else is-and they set me this.”
“Tracy stays at Aiden’s house,” Cassia said, trying to keep her composure. “We went together. That’s all”
“Oh, of course,” Damien sneered. “Nothing else. And you expect me to believe that?” His voice rose. “Where did you spend the night, Cassia?”
She bit her lip, silent.
“Aiden’s house, right?” he pressed. “Tell me what else happened id he kiss you again? Or were you the one who kissed him
this time?” His voice broke. “Or did something more happen? Dhe fuck you?”
Cassia’s hand flew before she could stop herself. Smack!
The sound echoed through the living room.
Damien’s head snapped to the side. His eyes widened in disbelief as his cheek flushed red.
“Not long,” he said quickly, though his eyes darted toward Dami
Cassia’s heart sank. He heard everything.
“Have you
caten?” she asked softly.
“Yeah,” Arthur said, glancing back at Damien. “Uncle Damien male me something. He’s been waiting for you all night. He fell asleep on the couch.”
Cassia’s lips trembled into a small, sad smile. “Come on, I’ll take you upstairs for your bath.”
She took his hand and led him up the stairs.
“Mommy,” Arthur said once they entered his room.
“Hmm?” she asked, forcing a smile.
“Do you really love Uncle Damien?”
She froze, turning to him slowly. “What? Why would you ask tha?”
Arthur sat on the bed, frowning. “Because… sometimes it feels like you don’t.”
Cassia’s throat tightened. She knelt in front of him. “Why would you think that, sweetheart? We just had a little argument. We’ll sort it out. And yes, I love him.”
Arthur looked down for a moment, then lifted his gaze again. “But not as much as you love Alpha Aiden.”
Cassia’s breath caught. The words hit like a blade twisting inside her chest.
