Meanwhile, Aiden stood outside Sofia’s room, his back pressed against the wall and his jaw clenched. James stood beside him, his eyes burning with restrained fury as he stared at Aiden.

“What the hell is wrong with you, Aiden? You were going to kill Her,” James hissed between gritted teeth. His voice cut like steel, his Beta authority slipping into his tone.

Aiden didn’t answer immediately. His chest still heaved, anger radiating off him like fire. The truth was simple, if James hadn’t come in at the last second, he would have snapped Sofia’s neck without a shred of hesitation. He dragged a hand down his face, forcing the words out.

“She had it coming.” His voice was low and dark, his eyes still flashing with suppressed rage.

James stepped closer, glaring at him. “Sofia can be difficult, she can be annoying, and yes, she pushes every button you have. But she’s still the mother of your child. What would you have to Ethan if he grew up and found out his father murdered his mother? Did you think about your son for even one second?”

Aiden’s face twisted. James’s words landed like a blade in his chest. Ethan. His son. His innocent boy. Guilt flickered across Aiden’s eyes, guilt that burned like acid. James was right, no matter how poisonous Sofia was, she was still Ethan’s mother, and hurting her was hurting his son.

Aiden turned his face away, jaw tightening. He ran a shaky hand hrough his hair, frustration rolling off him in waves.

Just then, the doctor stepped out of Sofia’s room, carrying his bag.

“How is she, doctor?” Aiden asked immediately, his voice sharper than intended.

“She’s stable,” the doctor said calmly. “She’ll be fine, though she’s still unconscious. I administered medication to spike her wolf’s healing ability, it’ll force her to recover faster. Three days maximum and the wounds should be gone. But she’s stressed, her blood pressure is high. She needs rest, care, and proper food.”

Aiden nodded stiffly. “Thank you.”

“I’ll be on my way now,” the doctor said, bowing slightly.

“I’ll see you out,” James muttered, throwing one last piercing glare at Aiden before escorting the doctor away, leaving Aiden alone in the hallway.

Aiden’s hand hovered on the doorknob, debating if to go in. He most turned away. But then he exhaled sharply, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.

Sofia lay motionless on the bed, her eyes closed and her breathing shallow. The faint bruises of his grip marred her throat. Aiden’s heart twisted at the sight.

Guilt gnawed at him. He had never loved her, not in high school and not even when they dated briefly because her father had pushed it. Back then, it wasn’t about feelings, it was about dy. And when she later came back into his life, it was because she carried his child that forced their marriage but never love.

But she was the mother of his son. And perhaps… Perhaps she deserved better than the cold distance he had given her all these years.

He moved closer, staring down at her injured face. His wolf did stir for her, not once, but at the very least she deserved peace. “Maybe I should have treated you better,” he muttered under his breath.

Just then, he felt a presence. He didn’t need to look, he could alady sense James’s scent.

“She’ll be fine,” James said quietly, leaning on the doorframe. “B you need to rest too, Aiden. You look like hell.”

Aiden pressed his lips together, saying nothing.

Then a sharp ringing tone cut through the silence. Both men froze.

Aiden pulled his phone from his pocket, no vibration. He turned to James, giving him a questioning look.

“Not mine,” James said. His eyes shifted toward Sofia’s bedside table. “It’s hers.”

Aiden stepped forward, picking up the phone. The caller ID lit up the screen: Dan.

Aiden’s eyes narrowed. “Are you not going to answer it? At least tell whoever it is that she’s resting?” James asked carefully.

“No. I don’t know who this Dan is. When she wakes up, she can deal with it herself.” Aiden’s voice was clipped as he hit silent mode and placed the phone back on the nightstand.

They walked out of the room, shutting the door quietly behind them.

“You didn’t come home last night,” James said as they moved down the hall. His eyes scanned Aiden’s exhausted face. “Where were you?”

Aiden sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Didn’t really sleep. stayed in my car all night…” He trailed off, his thoughts drifting to Amelia, her scent, her voice and her eyes. He didn’t need to finish his sentence. James already knew.

“You should get some rest,” James said flatly. “I’ll contact Jeremiah and tell him what

you found.”

He walked away, leaving Aiden alone in the hallway.

Aiden stood there for a moment, and then Arthur’s face flashed in his mind. He hadn’t seen the boy since he’d run off to get the iPad. A strange unease crept into his chest.

He walked toward the guest room, pushed the door open and there Arthur was, lying on the bed, the iPad still clutched in his little hands, half-asleep.

Cassia’s scent lingered faintly in the room. Aiden’s chest tightened. It drove him crazy, how just her scent made his wolf

restless.

“Alpha Aiden…” Arthur’s small, sleepy voice drifted out the moment his cracked

eyes

open and spotted him.

“Hey,” Aiden said softly, stepping closer. “Didn’t mean to disturb you. Go back to sleep.”

He sat on the edge of the bed, gently stroking Arthur’s hair. Those brown eyes, the same shade as his own, blinked up at him. And just like that, every burden in Aiden’s chest lifted.

“You’re nice to me,” Arthur whispered with a drowsy smile. “Like my Uncle Damien… I wish you were my daddy.”

Aiden froze, his hand stilling in the boy’s hair. His throat tightened. Uncle Damien? Again. Why the boy always said that, he didn’t know. And why… why did he wish Aiden was his father? Wsn’t Damien his dad?

“Isn’t Uncle Damien your father? Why do you call him uncle?” Alen asked, his voice careful.

“Yeah,” Arthur murmured sleepily. “He’s going to be my dad when my mommy marries him. But…” His voice trailed off as his eyelids drooped.

Aiden stared at him, confusion twisting inside him. He thought assia and Damien were already married. What is he talking

about?

Then Arthur’s small voice returned, whispering faintly like a drem. “What if one day you find out you’re my daddy?”

Aiden’s heart slammed against his chest. He smiled sadly, brushing the boy’s hair back. “Then I’d be happy. Happier than

But Arthur didn’t hear him. His eyes had closed completely, his Breathing soft and steady.

Aiden sighed, starting to rise from the bed. But Arthur’s tiny hand suddenly shot out, gripping his wrist even in his sleep.

Aiden froze, staring down at the little boy who clearly didn’t wan to let him go. Slowly, he eased back down, pulling out his phone with his free hand. He typed a quick message to James: Pick Ethan up from school today.

Then he set the phone aside, lying down beside Arthur. His wolf settled immediately, as though this little boy belonged to him and was his blood.

And for the first time in a long time, Aiden closed his eyes and difted to sleep with peace in his heart.
