**Chapter 166: Lily’s Complaints**
“Did the doctor share any updates regarding your injury?” Oriana inquired, her voice gentle yet laced with concern, hoping to divert Lily’s attention from the pain that shadowed her.
Lily took a moment, allowing herself to breathe deeply, feeling a slight easing of tension as she patted her chest. “Fortunately, I was in the right place when it happened. A tree broke my fall. Just a minor fracture, really. Three months of rest, and I’ll be back to normal.” The relief in her voice was palpable, a flicker of hope illuminating her features.
Oriana exhaled slowly, the weight on her shoulders lifting slightly. “That’s a relief to hear. Just make sure you stick to what the doctor says. I’ll take care of preparing for the lessons.”
“No, no! It’s just a leg sprain—I can still manage. Don’t worry about me!” Lily felt a pang of guilt for shifting all the responsibility onto Oriana. She didn’t want to burden her friend, especially when she was already so supportive.
Oriana offered a soft smile, her eyes drifting to Ethan, who lingered nearby. He seemed to be struggling with the urge to say something but held back, not wanting to disrupt the moment.
“I’ll head back to the hospital for now. I’ll swing by to check on you after work,” Oriana promised, her voice warm and reassuring.
“I’m fine. I’ll see you in the office the day after tomorrow,” Lily replied, attempting to sound more confident than she truly felt.
“Okay.”
With one last hug, Oriana departed, leaving a quiet space filled with unspoken thoughts.
As soon as Oriana was out of sight, Ethan stepped forward, his expression serious, almost grim. “Cancel everything with the logistics department. I don’t want to hear about it again.” His tone brooked no argument, a command that resonated with authority.
“They’re all irresponsible members of the student council. Just forget about the points!” Lily interjected, her frustration bubbling to the surface.
“Understood. I don’t want to deal with them anymore,” Ethan replied, his voice steady.
It was undeniable that Nyla had made the situation unnecessarily complicated, but Lily had suffered real harm and had every right to demand accountability. Yet, the logistics team was attempting to shift blame, claiming Lily was at fault. The pain in her leg was a constant reminder of her anger, and it felt as though her chest was constricting with indignation.
How could she possibly continue working alongside colleagues who treated her this way?
Ethan’s voice dropped, a mix of determination and tenderness. “I’ll see this through. No one is allowed to bully you.”
“Hmph. And just now, you couldn’t do anything about Nyla. If Oriana hadn’t been there, she would have been all over you guys,” Lily muttered, her words tinged with bitterness.
“And what about Luna? She just hides behind you, whining and crying. She can’t accomplish anything—barely even half a task. She might as well stay home. She’s not nearly as capable as everyone makes her out to be. I really don’t understand why you all like her so much. She’s just an adopted daughter, not Niall’s biological child.”
At her words, the atmosphere shifted; tension rippled through the room as all three of them stiffened.
“Lily? You need to get back in bed! It’s important for you to lie down properly,” Ethan urged, concern etched on his face.
As if summoned by the conversation, Luna re-entered the room, her expression feigning concern.
But the reactions she anticipated never materialized. Ethan and the others remained stoic, offering no response, leaving her feeling deflated.
Her heart sank as confusion washed over her. Why had the dynamics shifted so drastically? What had changed?
Lily, observing from her bed, snorted derisively. “So what if she has a few? Nyla was just putting her in her place a moment ago.”
This was a point Lily refused to let slip by unnoticed.
She was clearly taking a jab at Luna, subtly mocking the outsider.
Luna’s expression faltered, her lips pressing together as she looked at them with vulnerability.
“It’s my fault. I should’ve stood up for Lily, both morally and emotionally, but I didn’t have the courage. Grant has several projects tied to Nyla’s parents—I couldn’t jeopardize the whole team,” she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
“But don’t worry. I kept Nyla from being too harsh with her, although she’s really upset. Unless Oriana apologizes in person.”
“Apologize? She hasn’t even said sorry to me—ow!” Lily exclaimed, her anger flaring up, but as she moved too quickly, a sharp pain shot through her, causing her to collapse back onto the bed.
Ethan, furious at the thought of her pain, quickly pressed her down gently but firmly. Leo stepped forward, concern etched on his face as he assessed her injury. “Don’t get worked up,” he said, his voice calm and soothing, trying to ease the tension in the room.
