Chapter 246 Her Greed

Randolph had gone out briefly to see off a few guests. When he returned, he shook his head with a helpless smile. “Just look at all of you,” he said, amused. “More than ten years have passed, and you still remember everything as if it were yesterday.”

Having clearly anticipated such an emotional night, he had already arranged for a few employees to escort the group to a nearby hotel he’d booked in advance. Then, turning to Oriana, hi “Ori, I’m sorry for the commotion tonight. It’s getting late–you and your husband should head home.”

Oriana blinked in surprise, about to politely refuse, but Randolph spoke first, smiling gently. His usually stern features softened, revealing an affection that came from years of shared history and loss.

“No need for formalities. With Niall gone, you’re like a daughter to all of us. We haven’t taken proper care of you over the years. We may be rough old soldiers who don’t know how to say nice things, but in our hearts, we feel guilty. Just let us do this much–otherwise, we could never be at peace with ourselves. And besides,” he added, eyes misting slightly, “if Niall were still around, he would’ve done the same.”

Oriana’s throat tightened. She could only nod softly. “Thank you, Randolph.”

“No need to thank me.” He waved her off with a gruff kindness. “Go on now. I’ll take care of them–no need to see you out.”

“Alright.”

Oriana bowed her head once more in gratitude before leaving the private room with Micah.

Outside, the night was clear, the moon bright against a sky scattered with stars. Oriana tilted her head upward as they walked, her steps light but unsteady, her mind drifting far away.

Without realizing it, she stepped on something uneven and stumbled.

Micah’s arm tightened around her waist, pulling her securely into his embrace before she could fall.

He steadied her easily. “What are you thinking about?” he asked, his tone gentle.

Oriana felt a rush of guilt. She had been so lost in thought that she nearly made him trip as well.

Her emotions were a jumble–fragile, searching for reassurance.

“Micah,” she asked quietly, “do you think my parents would’ve liked me… if they were still alive?”

The investigation had confirmed what Micah already suspected: Leo and his friends were the same five children Captain Niall had saved during the Ashford earthquake years ago. After years of searching, they had found Luna–and believing she was Niall’s daughter, they had poured their gratitude, loyalty, and resources into her.

Micah’s brow furrowed coldly. “So they didn’t even know Luna isn’t Rory and Niall’s real daughter?”

Kieran shook his head. “I went to Mrs. Caldwell’s hometown myself. The records of Luna being switched at birth were erased long ago. No one there knows the truth. Mrs. Caldwell was Niall’s biological daughter all along.”

Micah’s expression darkened. “The Sterlings. Heartless, methodical people. They cleaned up every trace.” Kieran nodded grimly. “Yes. Only the Sterling family could have orchestrated something this thorough.”

He hesitated before adding, “But it’s strange–the Sterlings don’t seem to know why Luna’s connected to Leo and the others. There’s no record of their link.”

Micah was silent for a moment, thinking. Then he asked, “What about the investment? Did Bramwell approve it?”
