A few days earlier, Oriana had called ahead to make a reservation. When Randolph learned that she was bringing her lifelong best friend, he immediately set aside the private room with the best view, insisting on serving every one of the restaurant’s signature dishes to properly welcome a guest who had come such a long way.

Randolph’s enthusiasm was overwhelming, and Oriana had wanted to turn him down. But as she spoke on the phone, Micah was beside her, pressing a warm compress against her aching abdomen–her period had left her sore and tired. Overhearing the conversation, he gently patted her waist and gave her a subtle nod to accept.

Puzzled, Oriana followed his cue anyway.

When she hung up, she sat up with a frown. “Won’t this be too much trouble for Randolph? And you know he won’t let us pay a cent once we’re there…”

Micah straightened and leaned closer, his tone calm and measured as he explained, “You know how Randolph is–if we refuse, he’ll just take it personally. Once the dinner date’s set, I’ll talk to Jett. I’ll have my colleagues from the research center dine there the same evening under my name, and order the same dishes. That way, the kitchen can prep everything together, and it’ll be easier for the staff. As for our meal, I’ll ask Jett to include it in the tip.”

Oriana’s eyes brightened, and a smile spread across her face. “Micah, you’re a genius! That’s such a thoughtful plan.”

Micah let his lips curve into a faint smile.

“Is that all you think–that I’m just smart and thoughtful?”

By now, he’d long mastered the art of turning tender moments to his advantage.

Before Oriana realized it, he had moved in closer, his tall frame casting a gentle shadow over

her.

His sharp nose brushed deliberately against her earlobe as he murmured, “Shouldn’t there be a little more of a reward?”

The soft tickle along her ear and neck made her giggle and shrink back, but as she lifted her head, he caught her easily in his arms. “Micah–wait, I’m still on my period,” she protested, half laughing.

“I know,” he said, smiling.

He leaned closer again, lips nearly brushing her ear, and whispered something that made her whole face flush scarlet.

Blood rushed to Oriana’s face, and she smacked Micah’s chest with her fist. “Where did you even learn that!”

Micah caught her small hand in his larger one, his grip firm but gentle. Without saying a word, he guided her hand to rest against his pounding heart–and then slowly drew it downward.

His sharp, handsome features were softened by a kind of irresistible, intoxicating charm. His voice dropped low, coaxing, “Baby… just this once, okay?”

The deep, magnetic timbre of his whisper sent shivers through her. Completely bewitched, Oriana found herself nodding, giving in to his shameless request.

But what was supposed to be “just once“… she swore she’d never fall for that lie again!

Over half an hour later, Oriana lay sprawled beneath the blankets, her hands limp at her sides, her whole body flushed and glowing like she’d been steamed.

When Micah–looking utterly pleased with himself–walked lightly into the bathroom, she glared at his retreating back. The calm, restrained man from a few days ago? Gone.

He was completely insatiable.

“Oriana, what are you daydreaming about? Your face is all red.”

Snapped out of her thoughts, Oriana realized she’d been replaying those memories again.

Zara’s voice pulled her back to the present. Oriana quickly shook her head and changed the subject. “Are we here? Let’s go!”

Before Zara could respond, Oriana darted out of the car like lightning, leaving her friend hurrying to catch up.

“Oriana!”

“Hello, Randolph.”

Randolph was already waiting by the entrance, beaming when he spotted Oriana walking up with a young woman beside her. “So this must be your dear friend, Ms. Zara Radcliffe?”
